Reporting to the Regional IPAC Specialist, the IPAC Lead will be a resident safety expert who leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of system-wide improvements in infection prevention and serve as a role model to promote the goals of the IPAC program within the context of the vision and mission of Southbridge. You will facilitate change through interpretation and application of standards and provide best practice recommendations with the ultimate goal of improving resident outcomes and preventing disease outbreaks

Role Description The Infection Control Practitioner is a full-time, on-site role based in Pickering, ON. This role is responsible for planning, implementing,



and monitoring infection prevention and control programs in collaboration with clinical and administrative teams. Day-to-day tasks include conducting surveillance for healthcare-associated infections, analyzing data, and preparing reports and recommendations to reduce infection risks.

The practitioner will provide education and training to staff, and support outbreak investigations and response. The role also involves staying current with relevant guidelines and regulations, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and serving as a resource on best practices in infection prevention and control.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong Infection Control and Infection prevention and management skills.
- Candidates should possess clinical expertise in Nursing relevant to infection prevention and patient care.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Microbiology, including pathogen transmission and antimicrobial resistance.
- Candidates should possess excellent analytical, documentation, and reporting skills for surveillance and quality improvement.
- Candidates should possess robust communication, teaching, and collaboration skills to support staff education and interdisciplinary work.
- Relevant professional certification in infection control (e.g., LTC-CIP, CIC) and registration in a health profession (e.g., RN, RPN) are highly beneficial.
- Experience in LTC or acute care settings, and familiarity with provincial and national infection control standards, is an asset.
