Metro Vancouver Transit Police ("Transit Police") is the leader in regional public transit policing, operating across 22 communities. It provides policing services to all modes of transit: Bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain, and West Coast Express. Responsibilities
SUMMARY
Provides training, comprehensive reviewing, and information management support for Transit Police information systems including Police Records Information Management Environment (PRIME/Versadex), Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS), Justice Information System (JUSTIN), and other interconnected applications. Develops, delivers, and maintains training programs and materials to ensure sworn members and civilian employees are knowledgeable in the effective use of information management systems and related business processes. Conducts audits of records and information management practices to ensure compliance with retention requirements, organizational policies, and operational standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and delivers information management systems training by:
- conducting PRIME and interconnected systems training including JUSTIN, BC Corrections case management system (CORNET), Secure File Transfer Service (SFTS) and other related applications for new and existing sworn members and civilian employees;
- scheduling and coordinating training sessions and delivering course material to sworn members and civilian employees individually or in a classroom setting, as appropriate;
- reviewing, developing, modifying, updating and maintaining lesson plans, instructional guides, handouts, exercises, and other training documentation;
- administering course assessments and evaluating participant understanding and competency;
- providing ongoing user support and guidance regarding information management systems, workflows, business rules, and related procedures;
- communicating system changes, enhancements, and revised procedures to users.
Supports information management system enhancements and implementation by:
- analyzing current business practices and identifying opportunities to improve the utilization of PRIME/Versadex, DEMS, JUSTIN, and related applications that are adopted by Transit Police;
- providing consultation and recommendations during the development and implementation of new processes for PRIME/Versadex, DEMS, and JUSTIN from the perspective of training, knowledge transfer, and long-term user adoption;
- participating in testing activities for new versions of PRIME/Versadex, DEMS, JUSTIN, Administrative Utility applications, and other systems requiring user training;
- maintaining current knowledge of information management technologies, police records systems, and training methodologies;
Conducts information management reviews and records retention activities by:
- reviewing current records management practices across Transit Police sections to identify information maintained outside of PRIME database;
- conducting comprehensive reviews of information management processes, records, and datasets to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and retention requirements;
- reviewing records and events that meet purge requirements and updating retention classifications where appropriate;
- applying approved Transit Police File Retention Extension recommendations to purge eligible dataset to safeguard files;
- performing scheduled records purges in accordance with established retention schedules and legislative requirements;
Provides administrative and technical support for information management systems by:
- attending and participating in working groups, steering committees, project teams, and other meetings related to information management initiatives;
- assisting with Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS) and JUSTIN administration functions as backup to system administrators;
- supporting organizational initiatives related to information governance, records management, and system implementation.
Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature that do not affect the value of the job.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Requires completion of a diploma in Criminology, or an equivalent area of study, from a recognized post-secondary institution.
EXPERIENCE
Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a police workplace including a minimum of one (1) year experience utilizing PRIME/Versadex, JUSTIN, or DEMS, or related police information management systems. Requires experience developing and delivering training programs, preparing instructional materials, and providing user support for business applications. Requires ability to explain complex processes in a clear and understandable manner, develop training documentation, and effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
A further period of up to six (6) months on the job is required to become thoroughly familiar with Transit Police policies, procedures, information management practices, and system requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain enhanced security clearance.
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioral descriptive interview questions.

37.5 hours per week.

Rate of Pay
Group: 9
$42.42/hr to $50.95/hr
Conditions of Employment
