Information Services Assistant (Outreach and User Services) - Job Reference # 202608-03

DESCRIPTION:

The Information Services Assistant (Outreach & User Services) is responsible for the outreach activities of the Cardinal Carter Library, as well as the provision of accessible and patron centric user services. The incumbent is the direct supervisor of the Work Study team, providing training and ongoing support in public services and stacks maintenance.

The successful candidate will

- Use expert knowledge of circulation functions to deliver user-centered service to the students, faculty and staff of King's University College, Western and affiliate users, and users from our Team-oriented Futures consortia located across Ontario.
- Be responsible for the proper management of our physical circulating collection.
- Manage the Digital Lending Requests program of the library, including receiving, organizing, and completing digitization requests from the Affiliate, Western and Consortial communities.
- Explain, interpret and apply policies, as necessary, and make recommendations for change, as appropriate.
- Interview, train and manage the activities of Work Study students, ensuring the effective use of their time, skills and abilities by identifying priorities, assigning tasks, monitoring work performed and coaching to help students develop workplace competencies.
- Prepare training materials and service manuals, both for in-person and online training.
- Ensure the maintenance of order and adequate spacing in the circulating collection.
- Manage the Library Outreach Program by creating an Outreach plan, which includes assessments of all outreach events.
- Develop, implement and monitor the Library social medial platforms and public television screens.
- Manage the Digital Lending Requests Program.




- Ensure compliance with Canadian copyright legislation and Western’s University’s fair dealing guidelines for Digitized material.
- Act as a backup to the Information Services Assistant (Educational Resources & User Services) to liaise with King’s ITS regarding technology issues impacting user services, including wi-fi issues, printers (Heartland, Papercut, hardware issues), public computers, TV screens, etc.
- Opens the library on alternate weeks, ensuring the readiness of the daily cash balance and of all systems, equipment and the facility.
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (unless identified as preferred):

- Library Technician’s Diploma or the equivalent from a recognized institution
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Liberal Arts discipline is preferred
- 2+ years of previous relevant work experience
- Experience with the Alma Integrated library system is preferred
- Experience working with the physical collection of a library required
- Demonstrated experience managing students, volunteers or teams required
- Outreach experience, including using social media, preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required, including the ability to communicate and interpret library policy and procedure in dealing with patrons, other library staff and faculty.
- Must be attentive to detail, organized and accurate in daily tasks.
- Superb analytical and numeracy skills and experience in cash handling procedures are essential.
- Experience with web-based tools is essential, including advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web browsers (Firefox, Explorer,



Chrome & Safari), course-management systems (Sakai), desk-top publishing software (LibGuides), online room and equipment booking calendars, and email.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively, in an open and dynamic work environment is essential.
- Prioritizing tasks to achieve an even workflow, meet project deadlines and departmental goals is essential.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

TYPE OF JOB: Regular Full-time (35 hours per week)

Alternating weekly shifts, Mon-Fri: 7:30 am – 3:00 pm and 9:30 am – 5:00 pm.

SSG 9 - $56,989 - $63,434, per annum, dependent on experience
