Adelaide Strategy is a new public affairs firm based in downtown Toronto. We work with clients across a range of sectors, including municipal government, energy and utilities, non-profits, economic development, environment and climate change, and other emerging policy and public affairs issues.
We are creating an internship opportunity (Junior Consultant / Researcher) for a agile student that is working to complete their course work in a Canadian University or College. The position will provide hands-on experience in public affairs, government relations, policy research, communications, marketing and business development while working directly with the firm’s principals.
About the Role
This is a part-time, hybrid internship position based out of our downtown Toronto office, with flexibility to work virtually. Hours can be adjusted based on the candidate's availability, interests and class workload.
The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of client and firm-wide projects, including:
Research & Client Support
- Conduct research on industrial/sector developments, government policy, legislation, regulations, political developments and emerging issues.
- Support the development of policy briefs, briefing materials, presentations and other documents for a variety of audiences.
- Monitor municipal, provincial and federal political and policy developments relevant to clients.
- Assist with the preparation of meeting materials and background research.
- Arrange and coordinate meetings with clients, government officials and other stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings and calls, as appropriate.
Business Development & Marketing
- Conduct research to identify potential clients, opportunities and emerging issues.
- Support the development of proposals, pitch decks and other business development materials.
- Assist with Adelaide Strategy's LinkedIn and broader communications strategy.
- Research relevant news, policy developments and industry trends to support the firm's communications and business development activities.
Who We're Looking For
This position is ideal for a student studying political science, public administration, business, public policy, communications or a related field. The position is being offered through the Venture for Canada internship programwhich requires students to be enrolled in a University or College program, and have not yet completed the requirements for graduation within 30-days of the internship program commencing.
We are particularly interested in candidates who:
- Have a strong interest in Canadian politics and public policy at the municipal, provincial and/or federal level.
- Are curious about how governments work and how public policy affects organizations, businesses and communities.
- Have strong research, writing and analytical skills.
- Are comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
- Can manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Have strong attention to detail.
- Are comfortable working with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and online research tools.
- Have an interest in communications, government relations, public affairs or business development.
Previous experience in government, politics, public affairs, communications, student government, advocacy, research or a related field would be an asset, but is not required.
