Our client is seeking a Lawyer or a Notary, Government Affairs to actively contribute to its government relations, strategic intelligence, and legislative and regulatory analysis activities for a 12-month mandate.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with government partners and various external stakeholders. They will contribute to the development and promotion of the organization’s positions before public authorities and participate in a variety of matters related to legislation, regulation, and public protection.
YOUR ROLE:
As Counsel, Government Affairs, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting daily monitoring of provincial and federal government and parliamentary activities to identify issues that may impact the organization and its industry;
- Analyzing bills, regulations, consultations, and other relevant government initiatives;
- Advising management on legislative and regulatory matters and coordinating the preparation of briefs, position letters, reports, and other strategic documents;
- Planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating government relations activities and stakeholder engagement initiatives in collaboration with various internal teams;
- Advising management on legislative and regulatory matters and coordinating the preparation of briefs, position letters, reports, and other strategic documents;
- Supporting internal teams during government consultations related to bills, regulations, directives,
guidelines, or policies;
- Coordinating the collection and analysis of information required to develop public positions and prepare spokesperson interventions;
- Developing and maintaining trusted relationships with government and parliamentary representatives at both the provincial and federal levels;
- Representing the organization in working groups, committees, or forums focused on issues of strategic importance to the organization.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Member in valuable standing of either the Chambre des notaires du Québec or the Québec Bar;
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.);
- Relevant experience in a similar role;
- Excellent analytical and synthesis skills;
- Strong knowledge of government, legislative, and regulatory processes;
- Excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Political acumen, sound judgment, and attention to detail;
- Ability to manage multiple files simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
