JOB TITLE: Lead Analyst, Fraud Prevention & Air Cost Payments
POSITION STATUS: Temporary
DEPARTMENT: Finance
LOCATION: Montreal The Lead Analyst is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the air cost payment and reconciliation function while leading a small operational team composed of two Fraud Prevention Analysts and two Technicians. This role ensures timely and accurate strong air payment reconciliation, effective fraud detection and prevention, and continuous improvement of processes supporting airline cost management.
The Lead
Analyst acts as the subject matter expert for payment integrity, exception management, and fraud-related risks, while providing guidance, coaching, and operational oversight to the team.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Supervise and coordinate the daily work of two Fraud Prevention Analysts and two Technicians, ensuring priorities are clear, workloads are balanced, and service levels are met.
- Oversee the end-to-end air cost payment process to ensure payments are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with internal controls and contractual terms.
- Lead the reconciliation of air cost transactions, investigate discrepancies, and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.
- Monitor payment and reconciliation activities to identify anomalies, control gaps, duplicate payments, or potential fraudulent activity.
- Review escalated cases and exceptions, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to reduce financial risk and operational inefficiencies.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance controls, procedures,
and monitoring practices related to air cost payment and reconciliation.
- Partner with internal stakeholders such as Finance, Accounts Payable, Operations, Commercial teams, and system support teams to resolve issues and improve process performance.
- Support fraud prevention efforts by analyzing patterns, identifying suspicious trends, and recommending preventive or detective measures.
- Prepare and maintain reporting on payment accuracy, reconciliation status, unresolved variances, fraud trends, and team productivity.
- Ensure documentation, case files, and reconciliation records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Provide coaching, training, and technical support to team members to strengthen capabilities and ensure consistency in execution.
- Participate in system enhancements, testing, and process improvement initiatives impacting payment processing, fraud controls, and reconciliation workflows.
- Escalate material risks, unresolved issues, or control weaknesses to management with clear recommendations for resolution.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance operations, payment processing, reconciliation, fraud prevention, or a related analytical function.
- Previous experience leading or coordinating a small team is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, account reconciliation, payment validation, and exception management.
- Experience analyzing transactional data and identifying irregularities, trends, or fraud indicators.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with financial or operational systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, manage deadlines, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Robust verbal and written communication skills,
with the ability to explain issues clearly and work across functions.
- Experience in the airline, travel, or transportation industry is considered an asset.
