Job Overview

Root River Logging is seeking an experienced and reliable Log Loader Operator to join our forestry operations in Northwestern Ontario.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a log loader to handle, sort, pile, load and position timber in support of active logging and wood chipping operations. This position requires a skilled equipment operator with strong situational awareness, mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safe and productive work.

Work is performed in remote forestry environments and in varying Northwestern Ontario weather and ground conditions.

Duties

- Safely and efficiently operate a log loader and grapple in active forestry operations.
- Handle, sort, deck, load and position logs and wood fibre as required.
- Load logging trucks and support wood chipping operations by maintaining an efficient flow of timber.
- Safely maneuver and position timber around active equipment and work areas.
- Work safely around chippers, skidders, processors, feller bunchers, trucks and other heavy forestry equipment.
- Communicate effectively with truck drivers, equipment operators and supervisors to coordinate safe and efficient operations.
- Conduct daily pre-operational inspections of the loader and related equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance including greasing, cleaning, fluid checks and basic troubleshooting.
- Identify and promptly report mechanical, hydraulic or safety concerns.
- Maintain a safe and organized work area.
- Follow all Root River Logging health and safety policies, safe work procedures and operational requirements.

Qualifications

- Previous experience operating a log loader or similar heavy forestry equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to safely handle, sort and position timber.




- Strong understanding of safe heavy-equipment operation and working around mobile forestry equipment.
- Valuable mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize equipment or hydraulic concerns.
- Ability to complete daily inspections and routine preventative maintenance.
- Strong situational awareness, judgment and commitment to safe work practices.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently as part of a productive forestry team.
- Effective communication skills and ability to coordinate safely with other operators and truck drivers.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to required work locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in Northwestern Ontario conditions, including extreme cold, snow, heat, mud, dust and changing ground conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime or extended hours when operationally required.

Assets

- Previous commercial log loader experience.
- Experience loading logging trucks.
- Experience supporting wood chipping operations.
- Experience working with grapple-equipped forestry loaders.
- Experience operating other mechanized logging equipment such as skidders, processors, feller bunchers or excavators.
- Familiarity with Northwestern Ontario logging roads and forestry operations.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance skills.

Position Details Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Starting at $32.50 per hour; negotiable based on experience and qualifications

Schedule: Monday to Friday, with some overtime as operationally required

Location: Sioux Lookout area and other forestry operating locations throughout Northwestern Ontario
