Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Metal Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the precision fabrication, machining, assembly, and finishing of metal components used in Mekotek Canada’s industrial laser cutting systems among other brands. You will operate and maintain a variety of machining and shop equipment, read and interpret technical drawings, and ensure parts meet strict specifications and tight tolerances of ±0.15 mm.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in metal machining, metal fabrication, or manual machining and takes pride in producing consistent, high-precision work in a fast-paced manufacturing workplace. Experience with CNC equipment and programming is not required but is considered an asset. Strong mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of quality are essential to this role.

Responsibilities

- Operate manual and automated machining equipment including mills, lathes, grinders, lasers, press brakes, and other metalworking equipment to produce precision parts to specification
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain machining and fabrication equipment to ensure consistent performance and minimize downtime
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to determine machining and fabrication requirements
- Fabricate, fit, assemble, and finish metal components used in Mekotek Canada’s industrial laser cutting systems
- Perform in-process inspections and quality checks using calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools to ensure parts meet required tolerances of ±0.15 mm

- Troubleshoot basic mechanical and equipment issues and identify material, tooling, or design issues that may affect quality or production timelines
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules and maintain accurate production and maintenance records
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to clarify specifications, resolve design-to-production issues, and meet build schedules
- Support installation and commissioning teams with technical input on completed components and assemblies when required
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain consistent production quality
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following shop safety procedures and properly handling materials and equipment

Qualifications ✅

- Proven experience as a Metal Machinist, with strong mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience with machining and metal fabrication processes
- Ability to operate manual machining and metalworking equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, lasers, and press brakes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files accurately
- Strong understanding of precision measurement and the ability to work to tight tolerances
- Experience using hand tools, power tools,

measuring equipment, and other common metalworking tools
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, machine setups, and verifying dimensions
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work
- CNC machining and programming experience is not required but is considered an asset
- Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software is an asset
- Experience with welding and metal fabrication is an asset
- Forklift certification or experience operating material-handling equipment is preferred but not mandatory
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
