Heartland Housing Foundation serves over 1000 households in Fort Saskatchewan & Strathcona County as a not-for-profit housing management body and the administrators for provincially funded rent supplement programs. We operate 12 properties, including affordable lodges, rent-geared-to-income seniors housing, and near market housing for all ages.

- Pay: Competitive pay with an expected starting salary between $29.77-32.60 per hour. The full pay range for the position is $29.77 to 36.72 per hour, with progression based on performance. A salary review is conducted after 12 months of employment.

Hours

- Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- On-Call: Normally on call for a week, every 3-4 weeks. Emergency maintenance calls for the evenings and weekends during that week.

Location

- Located at Silver Birch Lodge 910 Bison Way, Sherwood Park
- On-Site Parking available for all employees

Position Overview As a Maintenance Operator, you'll be the go-to person for fixing things around our facilities. From electrical and plumbing issues to carpentry and aesthetics, you'll handle a variety of repairs to keep our buildings in top shape. Working closely with our Maintenance Team, you'll analyze problems, find solutions, and ensure everything meets safety regulations and standards. If you're handy with tools and love problem-solving, this role is perfect for you!

Responsibilities

Building Maintenance

- Respond to Service Requests: Address routine and emergency facility service requests, completing repairs related to plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and general building functions.
- Interior and Exterior Repairs: Handle repairs to walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, lighting, and plumbing fixtures, ensuring building aesthetics and functionality.
- Monitor Contractors: Supervise contractors and tradespeople, ensuring adherence to subcontractor policy and compliance with codes and standards.

Grounds Maintenance

- Snow/Ice Removal: Assist with snow/ice removal using appropriate tools and materials, as well as pest and bird control activities.

General/Custodial Related
- Furniture Set-Up and Event Assistance: Aid in furniture movement and set-up for events, as well as special event clean-up activities.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Maintain Tools and Equipment: Repair and maintain a variety of tools, motorized equipment, and machinery, ensuring regular servicing according to manufacturer guidelines.

Administration
- Work Order Management: Utilize the YARDI system to review, update,



and close out assigned work orders upon completion.
- Resident Documentation: Read and update resident documentation in the YARDI system as required.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
- Cleanliness and Hygiene: Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, adhering to health standards at all times.

Requirements

- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Three (3) years of previous building maintenance, repair and/or construction/trades related experience is required
- Fifth Class Power Engineer certification is an asset
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required
- Completion of a current and acceptable criminal records check for the vulnerable sector as required by the Protection for Persons in Care Act and the Accommodation Standards and Licensing Act is mandatory
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook is required
- Experience working with the YARDI system or other property management software is an asset
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or must be attained soon after hire

Working Conditions

- Frequent and ongoing contact with staff, residents, contractors, etc.
- The requirement to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform heavy manual work at times
- Strenuous physical activity including, but not limited to walking, standing, lifting, and bending
- Travel between HHF sites is required and the position may be required to work alone
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions is required
- Must utilize Personal Protective Equipment and follow universal safety precautions
- Operation of hand and power tools & equipment is required
- Occasional overtime and participation on an on-call rotation is required
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant or abusive individuals
