Minus Waste Solutions
Toronto, ON Build the People Foundation of a Growing Organization The Opportunity
If you're an HR professional who enjoys building programs, creating practical processes and partnering closely with leaders to help organizations grow, this is a unique opportunity to join a growing, entrepreneurial organization.
Minus Waste
Solutions, in partnership with Prime Management Group Inc., is looking for a Manager, People & Compliance to establish and lead the internal HR function across three growing businesses while coordinating health, safety and environmental compliance activities. In this newly created position, you'll have the opportunity to create systems, shape culture, influence leadership and build an HR function that supports the company's next stage of growth. This is not a role for someone who simply administers HR, it is an opportunity for someone who wants to build an HR program and becomes a trusted business partner to a growing organization.
This role is primarily focused on Human Resources.
What You Will
Do
Build a practical, scalable HR function across all three businesses, including policies, procedures, systems, and employee programs
Lead full-cycle recruitment for roles ranging from drivers and mechanics to administrative professionals and senior leaders
Develop job descriptions, source and screen candidates, coordinate interviews, prepare offers, and support employment agreement negotiations
Create a consistent onboarding and orientation experience that helps employees understand the organization and their individual performance expectations
Provide trusted guidance to employees and leaders on employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, discipline, and terminations
Conduct or coordinate fair, thorough workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, or policy concerns
Develop and maintain the employee handbook and ensure policies remain aligned with applicable employment legislation
Administer employee benefits and review compensation, vacation, and sick-day practices; prepare annual market analyses and recommendations for senior leadership
Identify training and professional-development needs, including operational programs that improve workplace capability and productivity
Coordinate health and safety requirements, including WSIB claims,
return-to-work programs, safety training, workplace boards, risk assessments, and monthly safety communications
Manage external health, safety, and environmental compliance providers ensuring appropriate processes are documented, implemented, and monitored
Serve as an internal point of contact for ministries, regulators, and customers on compliance matters, involving senior leadership and technical specialists as required The Leadership Style That Will Succeed The ideal candidate will be approachable enough to connect naturally with plant employees, drivers and mechanics, yet credible and composed when advising senior leadership or meeting with a regulator. They will remain calm under pressure, explain requirements patiently, and persuade others to adopt consistent processes without becoming overly bureaucratic. This person must be comfortable operating independently, taking ownership and turning broad organizational needs into workable programs.
Success will require resilience, discretion, sound judgment, and the confidence to challenge constructively when the business needs a stronger people, safety, or compliance practice.
What You
Bring
Five to seven years of progressive human resources experience, ideally within a growing, multi-site organization
Preferred experience in an industrial, environmental, or similarly regulated organization A college diploma or university degree in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline; a CHRL designation is strongly preferred A successful track record of building or significantly improving HR policies and systems
Strong working knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, employee relations, workplace investigations, and performance management
Practical exposure to occupational health and safety, WSIB claims, and return-to-work programs The judgment to recognize when specialized legal, safety or environmental expertise is required; and the ability to manage external providers effectively
Strong communication, diplomacy,
and emotional intelligence, with the ability to earn trust at every level of the organization A highly organized, process-oriented and detail-conscious approach, balanced by pragmatism and a genuine connection with people A valid driver's license and the ability to travel regularly among company locations and throughout Southwestern Ontario What Success Looks Like
Core HR policies, onboarding practices, and employee programs are established and consistently applied
Recruitment is managed effectively and leaders receive qualified, well-prepared candidate shortlists
