OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director, Resident Support Services, the Manager, Resident Support Services is responsible for monitoring the general wellbeing of residents, dealing with daily tenant management and administration issues for BCIHS supportive housing, ensuring the building is a respectful and supportive place in which to reside, visit and work.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES In the performance of these responsibilities, the Manager, Resident Support Services is accountable for:
Staff Supervision and Administration:
- Communicating job expectations; mentoring, coaching and developing frontline staff.
- Interviewing and hiring qualified staff, and arranging work schedule
- Providing direction to accomplish work; assigns duties
- Conducting employee performance evaluations
- Maintaining employee records – contact information payroll/time keeping information, sick time use and leaves
- Ensuring training and orientation is provided to new employees
- Ensuring program operations comply with all required privacy and occupational Health and Safety standards and regulations including WHMIS, Bullying and Harassment Awareness, Privacy and Food Safe
- Training staff in Naloxone protocols and forward records for personnel files
- Working with HR to manage employee issues and apply progressive discipline
- Participating in labour relations matters, labour/management meetings
- Ensuring schedule vacancies are filled; maintains close control of schedules in advance to identify potential upcoming issues
- Collaborating with Director and HR to review job descriptions, postings and job offers
- Assessing relationships between staff and residents to ensure safe, supportive, respectful, high-quality supports are provided and day to day services are designed to meet needs
- Ensuring effective and qualified communication between staff, residents, community agencies and service providers
- Responding to escalated resident concerns and complaints
- Initiating a coordinated response in crisis situations and notifying senior management
- Ensuring strict confidentiality of information and all matters with respect to employees, operational planning, decision making and organizational proprietary interests
- Performing various analytical tasks, preparing reports at the request of senior management
- Managing/monitoring department staffing budget in collaboration with the Director
Tenant Administration:
- Interviewing and selecting residents based on program criteria, suitability for the building, and confirming third party support for mental health or addiction issues
- Providing introduction and orientation to the building for all new residents
- Overseeing tenant management and addressing unacceptable resident behavior including verbal and written warnings when required
- Liaising with community agencies such as police and reporting suspicious activities in or around the building
- Building positive relationships with residents and supporting their personal development, encouraging healthy life choices and involvement in building and resident activities
- Maintaining manual and computerized records and documentation of interactions with residents, statistical data and individual resident files
- Available by telephone for emergency response on a 24/7 basis
Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a relevant subject, plus five (5) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Basic First Aid Training Certificate
- Minimum 3 years of Supervisory experience
- Eligibility to be bonded
- Crisis Intervention Skills Training an asset
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with community resources including the mental health system and related agencies, welfare system, and addiction support services
- Demonstrated ability and proven success in managing a team
- Demonstrated suitability to work with disadvantaged and challenging youth and adults
- Familiarity with the issues facing Aboriginal and marginalized people
- Knowledge of Aboriginal peoples and culture
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting residents, statistical data and individual resident files
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to foster a fair, non-judgmental and respectful working and living environment
- Sound knowledge of office administration procedures
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- familiarity with the Residential Tenancy Act
- Familiarity with BCIHS mission, vision and values
- Ability to work occasional flexible hours
Job Type - Full-time, Temporary, Exempt Contract ending December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension
