Position Overview
We are seeking a Marine Maintenance Worker to support the Engineering Department in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Hullo's passenger vessels.
Working closely with the Chief Engineers and Engineering team, you will assist with vessel inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and daily operational readiness. This role is ideal for a hands-on, mechanically inclined individual who enjoys solving problems, working in a team environment, and building a long-term career in the marine industry.

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Assist Chief Engineers and engineering staff with the maintenance, repair, and installation of marine machinery and systems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on:
- Marine diesel engines
- Generators
- Pumps
- Valves
- Auxiliary mechanical equipment
- Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues and support corrective repairs.
- Perform routine machinery space inspections and cleaning,
including checking fluid levels, leaks, alarms, and overall equipment condition.
- Promptly identify and report defects, abnormalities, and safety concerns.
Vessel Operations
- Conduct regular sounding and monitoring of vessel tanks.
- Support vessel activities following nightly tie-up, including:
- Fueling operations
- Fresh water replenishment
- Sewage transfer and pump-out
- Shore power connections
- Help ensure vessels are fully prepared and operationally ready for the next service day.
Documentation & Inventory
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS).
- Assist with inventory management of spare parts, tools, and supplies.
- Complete maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
- Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, Transport Canada regulations, and marine industry standards.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of vessel operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Transport Canada Fourth-Class Engineer Certificate or equivalent marine engineering certification.
- Experience working with marine mechanical systems, diesel engines, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or related mechanical systems.
- Basic knowledge of:
- Marine diesel propulsion systems
- Pumps and valves
- Mechanical and electrical systems
- Preventive maintenance practices
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience or training in mechanical trades such as Heavy Duty, Millwright, Industrial Mechanical, Automotive.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures.
Physical Requirements The successful candidate must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Climb ladders and access machinery spaces.
- Work in confined spaces and varying weather conditions.
- Bend, squat, kneel, and stoop for extended periods.
- Safely use lifting devices and mechanical assistance equipment.
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness in an operational marine environment.
