Halifax Partnership has an opportunity for a recent post-secondary graduate to join our team as a Marketing and Communications Associate & Research Specialist until the end of March 2027. You will learn from some of the best economic development professionals in Canada and gain first-hand experience working to attract and support the growth of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Halifax.

Reporting to the Vice President of Investment Attraction and Business Development, the Marketing and Communications Associate & Research Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the implementation of Halifax Partnership's business development activities, including its FDI marketing strategy, with a focus on emerging opportunities in the Defence Sector.

The Associate will undertake research to map the defence procurement ecosystem and to support the ability of local firms to participate in related supply chains. They will also work directly with the Business Development team and cross-functionally with the Marketing and Communications and Research teams to support efforts to attract investment and grow existing businesses.

This position requires strong research skills, the ability to write for various audiences and mediums, excellent oral communication skills, strong people skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

- Working with the Vice President, conduct an environmental scan to develop an ecosystem map of service providers and programs related to defence procurement in the Halifax region.
- Conduct research to identify potential supply chain opportunities for local businesses.




- Develop and promote resources to support local business understanding of procurement pathways and opportunities to participate in larger defence supply chains.
- Support lead generation and relationship-building with FDI prospects across all target sectors through the development of FDI marketing materials, content, trade show materials, proposal preparation, information requests, and direct outreach.
- Support the execution of a marketing strategy that positions Halifax and Halifax Partnership appropriately with foreign direct investors and FDI partners.
- Support the design and delivery of FDI events.
- Maintain the Halifax marketing toolkit and website content to ensure data and content are up to date.

- Assist in coordinating and managing quarterly tracking and reporting to funders and our Board of Directors.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education

- Recent post-secondary graduate (within the last 3 years).
- Undergraduate and/or graduate degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Business, Commerce (or equivalent experience).

Experience

- Experience in project management, research, business writing, and developing marketing and communications content and materials for a variety of audiences and communications channels.

Skills

- Proficient in Microsoft products, CRM/Database use, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Knowledge of and experience using HubSpot and Canva are considered assets.
- Writing compelling stories and content and implementing marketing and communications plans that meet program objectives.
- Superior attention to detail.




- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines with ease.
- Technologically savvy, especially in terms of digital marketing and communications.
- Inquisitive, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.
