Journeyperson Mechanic (Mining)
310T or 421A journeyperson certification.
We are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Mechanic to join our mining operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of stationary and mobile mining equipment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate, inspect, maintain, and lubricate mobile and stationary mining equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel-powered equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Read and interpret hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and fabrication drawings and schematics.
- Install, repair, and replace mechanical systems and components on mining equipment.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions, disassemble mechanical assemblies, replace worn or damaged components, and reassemble equipment to manufacturer specifications.
- Support hoist and shaft maintenance activities as required.
- Complete inspection reports, work orders, timecards, and other maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and diagnostic software, including CAT ET and other equipment-specific programs.
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication work as required.
- Operate service and fuel trucks safely and efficiently.
- Maintain crushers, conveyors, screeners, and other material handling equipment.
- Communicate equipment status, repair progress, and operational issues with supervisors and team members.
- Assist with training and mentoring apprentices and less experienced mechanics.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Maintain a clean,
organized, and hazard-free work environment.
- Perform other maintenance duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic, preferably in a mining, aggregates, or heavy industrial environment.
- Need 310T or 421A journeyperson certification.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
- Proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, and low-voltage electrical troubleshooting and repair.
- Skilled in welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication.
- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Experience diagnosing mechanical failures and repairing heavy equipment.
- Working knowledge of crushers, conveyors, screeners, and other mining equipment.
- Familiarity with power transmission systems and alignment procedures.
- Experience using computerized maintenance systems (CMMS) and diagnostic software such as CAT ET, Windows-based maintenance programs, SMAG, GHH, or similar.
- Thorough understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
