We are Systematix and we are currently looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of sophisticated scientific instrumentation for one of our key clients.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Our client is a global leader in science and technology, developing advanced analytical instrumentation used by scientists and researchers around the world. As part of its ongoing product development initiatives, the organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team responsible for designing, integrating, prototyping, and verifying technologies for state-of-the-art analytical instruments.
The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical, electrical and systems engineers, research scientists, and product development teams throughout the product development lifecycle, helping transform technical concepts into functional, manufacturable, and reliable solutions.
ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and design mechanical components, assemblies, and test fixtures for mass spectrometry modules supporting current and future products.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering designs using CATIA and SolidWorks.
- Produce complete engineering work packages, including detailed GD&T; drawings, tolerance analyses, Bills of Material, and supporting technical documentation.
- Build and evaluate prototype assemblies to validate functionality, manufacturability, and ease of assembly.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical designs and prototype assemblies and document findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with engineers, research scientists, product development teams, and project managers to translate theoretical concepts and product requirements into functional prototypes and production-ready designs.
- Apply sound engineering principles to mechanical design challenges involving precision components and complex scientific instrumentation.
- Support design verification activities and contribute to the investigation and resolution of mechanical performance issues.
- Provide technical support for released products with a focus on improving manufacturing yield, field reliability, product quality, and cost.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles throughout the product development process.
- Use rapid prototyping and 3D printing technologies to support design development, evaluation, and testing.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and product designs.
ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional mechanical design experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with CATIA and SolidWorks.
- Demonstrated experience creating complex 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and mechanical assemblies.
- Robust knowledge and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;).
- Experience performing tolerance analysis and developing detailed engineering documentation and Bills of Material.
- Experience designing mechanical components with consideration for product cost, reliability, manufacturability, and assembly.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience building, testing, troubleshooting, and refining prototypes.
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing precision mechanical components or assemblies for scientific, laboratory, medical,
or other sophisticated instrumentation.
- Experience with mass spectrometry, analytical instrumentation, or laboratory technologies.
- Knowledge or demonstrated interest in physics, analytical science, or life science technologies.
- Experience supporting products through multiple phases of the product development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through verification and commercialization.
- Experience providing engineering support for released products, manufacturing yield improvements, reliability initiatives, or product cost reduction.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a contract opportunity supporting the development of advanced scientific instrumentation as part of a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team.
The expected pay range for this position is CAD $45–50 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
