Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering Intern / Co-op Student
Quickmill, a Canadian leader in the design and manufacturing of large-format CNC machining centers, is seeking a motivated Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering Intern / Co-op Student to join our engineering team.
This is a hands-on opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, programmers, machinists, and technicians on real-world engineering projects. Students will gain exposure to the complete machine development process—from design and automation through manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing.
With over 40 years of experience building premium CNC machine tools for customers around the world, Quickmill offers students the opportunity to apply engineering fundamentals while learning how complex industrial machinery is designed and built.
What You’ll Work On
Depending on your background and interests, you may:
- Create and modify 3D mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
- Prepare manufacturing drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials.
- Design machine components, fixtures, guarding, sensor mounts, and accessories.
- Assist with sensors, instrumentation, actuators, automation, and machine controls.
- Support PLC, HMI, CNC, and servo system integration and testing.
- Perform engineering calculations and assist with FEA and simulation.
- Participate in R&D; projects and new technology development.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and automation issues.
- Work directly with manufacturing and assembly teams to build and test designs.
- Participate in design reviews, machine testing, and continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering program.
- Completed at least two years of university preferred.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD; SolidWorks experience is an asset.
- Robust interest in machinery, automation, robotics, CNC, or manufacturing.
- Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Comfortable working in both an engineering office and hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Curious, technically minded, and eager to learn.
Previous industrial experience is not required.
Experience Considered an Asset
Experience or interest in any of the following is beneficial:
- CAD, FEA, and GD&T;
- CNC machining, welding, or fabrication
- PLC, HMI, CNC, or servo controls
- Robotics and industrial automation
- Sensors and instrumentation
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Python, C/C++, Arduino, or similar programming
- CAM and additive manufacturing
- University design teams such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, robotics, or similar projects
What You’ll Gain This is not an observational internship. You’ll have opportunities to design, build, test, and troubleshoot real equipment while learning from an experienced multidisciplinary team.
You’ll see engineering projects progress from CAD and controls through machining, assembly, integration, and into a working CNC machine.
We’re looking for students who enjoy figuring out how things work. If you’ve built a robot, designed something in CAD, programmed a controller, machined a part, worked on vehicles or machinery, or taken something apart just to understand it—we’d like to hear from you.
