In support of our homebuilding operations, Habitat Greater Ottawa operates Habitat ReStore, a retail home improvement store that sells donated home furnishings, appliances, and renovation materials. All proceeds help us build more homes for local families.

The Role The Merchandise Supervisor leads all sales-floor merchandising and product presentation at the Stittsville ReStore. This role ensures merchandise is priced, displayed, rotated, and replenished in a way that supports sales, creates a safe and welcoming shopping environment, and reflects ReStore standards. Working closely with the Donation Processing Supervisor and the Volunteer, Customer Service & E-Commerce Supervisor, this position turns incoming product into an organized, shoppable sales floor while coaching staff and volunteers assigned to merchandising activities.
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising & Sales-Floor Standards
- Lead the daily organization, presentation, replenishment, and maintenance of all sales-floor departments.
- Create clear, attractive, and easy-to-shop displays that maximize product visibility and sales opportunities.
- Ensure aisles, displays, signage, fixtures, and product placement meet ReStore safety and presentation standards.
- Set daily merchandising priorities based on available inventory, department needs, seasonal opportunities, and sales performance.
- Maintain department layouts and category standards while adapting displays to the unique mix of donated product.
- Identify slow-moving, incomplete, damaged, or unsuitable merchandise and apply approved rotation, markdown, clearance, or removal processes.
Pricing, Product Flow & Inventory
- Ensure merchandise placed on the sales floor is complete, clean, safely displayed, and accurately priced according to organizational policy.
- Monitor pricing consistency across departments and coach team members on approved pricing practices.
- Coordinate with the Donation Processing Supervisor to prioritize product required on the sales floor and maintain timely movement of merchandise.
- Monitor floor capacity and communicate when categories are overstocked, understocked, or require redistribution.
- Support inventory counts, product transfers, special promotions, and seasonal merchandising initiatives.
Leadership & Team Coordination
- Direct and support staff and volunteers assigned to merchandising, replenishment, product movement, and store-standard tasks.
- Provide practical training and coaching on merchandising, pricing, product handling, department standards, and safe work practices.
- Prepare clear daily task assignments and follow up to ensure work is completed to standard.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, accountable, and team-focused work environment.
Customer Experience & Sales Support
- Maintain a sales floor that is welcoming, accessible, organized, and easy for customers to navigate.
- Assist customers with product questions and purchases, and refer front-end issues or escalations to the appropriate supervisor.
- Monitor customer shopping patterns, product demand, and sales trends to recommend merchandising improvements.
- Support store promotions and events through product selection, displays, signage, and floor readiness.
Safety, Communication & Collaboration
- Conduct regular sales-floor safety checks and promptly correct hazards, blocked exits, unstable displays, and unsafe product placement.
- Ensure safe use of carts, dollies, ladders, and material-handling equipment within the scope of training and authorization.
- Communicate operational challenges, staffing needs, product-flow concerns, and improvement opportunities to the Assistant Manager and Store Manager.
- Collaborate with the other supervisors to coordinate opening, closing, emergency response, and overall store priorities.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Two to three years of experience in retail merchandising, sales-floor operations, visual merchandising, or a related supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of product presentation, retail standards, pricing,
inventory rotation, and sales-floor organization.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience training, coaching, and coordinating staff or volunteers.
- Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing inventory.
- Strong customer-service skills and commitment to Habitat Greater Ottawa’s mission and values.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position, 40 hours per week, with evenings and weekends required.
- Active, hands-on role performed primarily on the sales floor.
- Requires prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending and reaching, and lifting or moving items safely up to 50 lbs.
- Supervises and coordinates a combination of paid staff and volunteers.
Compensation and Benefits The salary band for this role is between $37,000 and $40,301 per annum, based on experience. Habitat Greater Ottawa also offers a comprehensive health benefits plan, vacation, and flexible personal days.
