Consulting Network Engineer - Industrial IoT, Wireless and Core Networks

About the role The Network Engineer designs, deploys, troubleshoots, and supports network solutions for a wide range of clients as part of the advanced network team. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as our work spans a variety of sectors including mining, telecommunications, health care, government, utilities, education, research, and financial services.
We need a network specialist who can adapt to client needs and is willing to work outside of a traditional office environment when required. You’ll work with a wide variety of technologies, build your technical abilities, and have opportunities for training and professional development.
This position is primarily based onsite at ESTI's Saskatoon Head Office, with travel to client sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, wireless radios, and other network infrastructure.
- Configure and support network solutions across enterprise, data centre, cloud, and industrial environments, including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Work with evolving technologies from Cisco, Dell, Fortinet, Palo Alto, VMware, and other technology vendors.
- Apply a robust understanding of how applications communicate over IP networks when designing and troubleshooting network solutions.
- Conduct wireless site surveys and assess wireless coverage.
- Troubleshoot network issues quickly and methodically, identify the root cause, and provide clear recommendations or solutions.
- Support network environments where industrial control systems and other operational technology must operate securely and reliably alongside traditional IT networks.
- Rack, cable, configure, and install network equipment in a variety of environments, including data centres, industrial sites or underground mines.
- Travel to client sites as required, follow site-specific safety & PPE requirements, and be comfortable with extended periods away from a traditional office setting.
- Communicate technical information, issues, and recommendations clearly to clients, colleagues, and other technical professionals.
- Continue developing technical knowledge through training, hands-on experience, and independent learning.
- Accurately track time and project activities in accordance with ESTI’s project and timekeeping requirements.
- Complete client-required training, certifications, screening, and site-access requirements, including WHMIS and other safety requirements as applicable. Drug tests may be required for some sites.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in network engineering, network administration, or a related technical role.
- Strong understanding of IP routing and switching, including TCP/UDP, Layer 2 frame forwarding, Layer 3 packet forwarding, subnetting, and routing protocols.
- Experience with enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies.
- CCNA or CCNP in routing and switching or wireless, or CWNA, would be an asset.
- Fortinet FCP or FCSS certification would be an asset.
- Experience working with industrial, operational technology, or IoT networks would be an asset.
- Willingness and ability to travel, primarily within Western Canada, and work in a variety of environments, including offices, data centres, industrial facilities, and mine sites.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements,
and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrates accountability and ownership of assigned work, works effectively both independently and as part of a team, and learns quickly as technologies and client requirements evolve.
- Capable of carrying and maintaining the equipment, tools, and technology required to perform field work effectively and safely
