Role Description The Network Field Technician is a full time, on-site position located in the Greater Ottawa Metropolitan Area. This role involves installing, configuring, and testing network equipment such as routers, switches, and access points at client locations, as well as performing structured cabling, hardware deployment, and basic workstation setup.
The technician will troubleshoot network connectivity issues, diagnose physical infrastructure problems, and carry out repairs or adjustments to meet service-level expectations. Day-to-day responsibilities include following detailed work orders,
documenting activities and outcomes, updating tickets, and providing clear status reports to remote IT teams and project managers. The role also includes direct interaction with client personnel, ensuring professional communication, adherence to safety and security procedures, and consistent delivery of high-quality onsite service.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Networking skills, including experience with routers, switches, and basic TCP/IP concepts.
- Candidates should possess hands-on Cabling skills, including structured cabling, cable terminations, labeling, and basic testing tools.
- Candidates should possess solid Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving network, connectivity, and hardware issues onsite.
- Candidates should possess effective Customer Service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, manage expectations, and represent the company professionally at client locations.
- Relevant certifications or training (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent field experience) are beneficial.
- Ability to read and follow technical documentation, site plans, and work orders, and to maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Comfort with field work, including travel within the Greater Ottawa area, working in varied physical environments, and adhering to safety protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred; previous experience in field services or onsite IT support is an asset.
