Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
One or two Part-Time Academics are needed to teach two sections of COMM 4125 Taxation in the Fall term from September to December 2026. Both sections are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday with Section 1 from 17:35 to 18:55 and Section 2 from 19:05-20:25. In your application, please clearly state which of these two sections you are interested in or available to teach. Preference will be given to applicants who can teach both of these sections.
Course Description
This course is an introduction to the taxation system in Canada, with a focus on the calculation of net income for tax purposes and concluding with personal tax payable calculations. By the end of the course students should be able to calculate taxes payable for individuals and to identify and analyze tax issues related to these calculations.
Each section of this course consists of two weekly 80-min lectures on Tuesday and Thursday from 17:35 to 18:55 (Section 1) or from 19:05 to 20:25 (Section 2), during the fall term at Dalhousie from September to December 2026. In addition, a final examination may be scheduled during the subsequent examination period in the first three weeks of December.
The Part-Time Academics will be responsible for the organization of their course, preparation and delivery of appropriate teaching and evaluation materials, student assessment, and assurance of learning.
The Part-Time Academics shall also hold two additional hours of office hours per week for direct consultation by students, for which office space will be provided.
These are positions with a robust emphasis on high-quality teaching, excellent communication and dedication to student success.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- A Canadian CPA designation and/or a Master’s degree in Management, Commerce, Business Administration or a related field is essential.
- Candidates must also have demonstrated good knowledge of the specific subject matter (accounting and taxation), and completion of a PhD, a PhD in progress and prior teaching or related work experience in practice are considered to be strong assets.
- Preference will further be given to candidates with experience or interests in creating innovative pedagogical materials that can also incorporate principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA).

All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
