Position Summary

Temporary Part-Time Support Staff, new position (August 24, 2026 – October 23, 2026) Reporting to the Manager, International Transition Services (ITS), the International Student Immigration Advisor (ISIA) provides professional immigration advising and support to international students throughout their academic journey.

The incumbent delivers accurate, timely, and student-centred guidance on Canadian immigration matters, including study permits, work permits, temporary resident visas, post-graduate work permits (PGWPs), spouse and dependent applications, and related immigration processes. The role supports institutional compliance with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regulations through reporting, research, stakeholder consultation and educational programming.

The successful candidate will maintain current knowledge of immigration legislation, interpret and apply IRCC policies, and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to support informed decision-making and student success.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with two days on-site at the Doon campus located at 299 Doon Valley Dr. in Kitchener, and three days remote. The schedule is subject to change with proper notice.

Responsibilities

- Provide individual immigration advising and drop-in support, both in person and virtually, to prospective students, current students, alumni, parents, recruiters, and agents
- Advise on study permits, work permits, temporary resident visas,



PGWPs, restoration applications, and other immigration matters affecting international students
- Assess students' academic and immigration circumstances to identify potential compliance concerns and provide appropriate recommendations
- Collaborate with academic advisors, student success advisors, and program coordinators to identify study plans that support compliance with study permit conditions and PGWP eligibility requirements
- Assist students in exploring pathways to permanent residence by providing information on available immigration programs and labour market considerations
- Provide guidance to faculty, staff, and college departments regarding immigration matters affecting international students
- Assess co-op work permit requirements and student eligibility for placements and experiential learning opportunities
- Develop and deliver workshops, webinars, presentations, information sessions, and educational materials related to immigration regulations and student compliance requirements
- Research emerging immigration trends, policy updates, and legislative changes, and communicate relevant information to stakeholders
- Support the completion of mandatory IRCC compliance reporting requirements
- Provide backup support for the ISIA shared email inbox, including responding to or triaging inquiries during periods of high volume

Qualifications

- A three-year diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Education, Business, International Business, International Studies, or a related field of study is required
- Must maintain the designation of Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA)



or Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and remain in valuable standing with the Canadian Immigration College of Canada (CICC)
- Minimum three years of experience with a working knowledge of Canada Immigration rules and regulations as it pertains to international students
- Highly knowledgeable about Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies and procedures pertaining to international students
- Highly developed intercultural communication skills; a second language is an asset
- Experience working with international students and/or newcomers to Canada
- Robust communication, customer service, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Strong research skills, including reviewing and interpreting IRCC regulations and policies and relevant legislation
- Proven advocacy skills as evidenced by experience assisting clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Experience developing and delivering both in-person and virtual workshops and information sessions
- Well-developed computer skills and experience using the Internet and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and set priorities
- Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to other campuses or community organizations as required
