Position Summary
Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing therapeutic recreation programs that enhance the social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive well-being of residents.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and facilitate engaging recreational and leisure programs.
- Encourage resident participation while promoting independence, dignity, and choice.
- Adapt activities to meet the individual needs and abilities of residents.
- Complete program documentation and evaluations accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support resident care plans.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for residents and visitors.
- Assist with special events, outings,
seasonal celebrations, and community programs.
Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma or Certificate in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Health Care, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care or retirement setting.
- Experience supporting individuals living with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other cognitive impairments.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Current Food Handler Certificate.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to work weekends and evenings.
Assets:
- Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) Certification.
- Montessori Dementia Care training.
- Experience with electronic documentation systems.
Schedule
- Permanent Part time
- 30 hours biweekly
- Weekend and evening availability required
- Shift rotation in accordance with the collective agreement
Job Type: Permanent Part-Time (30 hours biweekly) Salary: $24.04–$25.85 per hour
