Position Summary

Regular Part-Time Support Staff, new position

(First consideration for support staff and academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective collective agreements)

The Simulation Specialist supports all simulation activities within the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS). The Specialist is responsible for simulation delivery, creating immersive, case-based environments, assisting in case development as a subject-matter expert, developing new strategies to enhance simulation, providing support and input to learners in open access, and acting as the point of contact for troubleshooting issues related to all health science technologies.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work on-site three days per week, Tuesday to Thursday, 24 hours per week, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Conestoga’s Centre of Excellence in Healthcare Education, located at 433 Steeles Avenue in Milton. Travel is required weekly between campuses.

Responsibilities

Simulation development and quality improvement

- Support development, refinement, and feasibility planning for simulation cases
- Deliver dry runs for newly developed or revised cases, collect feedback, implement revisions, and update related documentation
- Recommend simulation modalities and levels of immersion aligned with curricular outcomes
- Create and maintain simulation guides, charting materials, and multi-sensory learning environments

Technological delivery and maintenance

- Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform preventative care on all simulation equipment, mannequins, medical devices, and A/V systems




- Coordinate with vendors for repairs, updates, and new equipment acquisition; assemble and deploy new technology
- Provide technical training, user guides, and troubleshooting resources
- Record, archive, and upload video assets
- Develop mobile simulation solutions and custom task trainers

Scheduling and coordination

- Schedule simulation spaces, equipment, and human resources; support space conflict resolution across programs
- Maintain stocked, secure simulation suites and organize inventory of supplies and equipment
- Support capital equipment planning and transport, change, and track usage of medical gases
- Coordinate simulation bookings and events for continuing education and external partners
- Allocate resources (staff, equipment, props, charts) to meet learning objectives

Open Access learning

- Organize and deliver skills demonstrations and experiential learning activities
- Schedule student practice sessions and distribute required supplies
- Assess return demonstrations, document performance, and ensure professional practice standards
- Maintain clean, safe, fully functional lab environments

Program quality and professional practice

- Build collaborative relationships with students, faculty,



and partners; support program promotion and outreach
- Serve as a subject matter expert in simulation technology and educational integration
- Develop and maintain learning resources, contribute to quality assurance, and stay current in simulation best practices
- Provide ongoing equipment in-services and technical support to faculty and staff

Vendor relations

- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, gather quotes, coordinate repairs, and evaluate new technologies
- Provide recommendations for purchasing and integrating new simulation technology

Qualifications

- Regulated (Registered) health care professional with a three-year diploma or degree in health care is required
- Minimum three years of experience as a registered health care professional in an acute/post-acute health care setting
- A Simulations Educator Certificate - Keystones obtained by Simulation Canada is an asset
- Experience with Laerdal, METI, and Gaumard mannequins, as well as B-Line and Simulation IQ Audio Visual (A/V) systems, is considered an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with faculty, staff, students, stakeholders, vendors and outside community partners
- A high level of organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Assertive, self-motivated, and creative abilities to fully realize the potential of the Cross Centre for Simulation Learning and its assets
- Uses critical thinking skills for decision-making and problem-solving
- Access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel between Conestoga campuses
