Summary Of Duties The Department of Medical Physics at the Odette Cancer Centre (OCC) of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario, has an opening for a permanent, full-time Physics Associate to join a team of five physics associates.

The Physics

Associates undertake quality control of equipment for the delivery of ionizing radiation (including medical linear accelerators), radiation protection measurements, radiation dose measurements, and research and development projects under supervision. Morning and evening shifts are required.

The Radiation Treatment

Program has twelve linear accelerators, one MR-linac, one Gamma Knife, four CT-sims, three MR-Sims, and one high-dose-rate afterloader.

Physics associates perform quality control measurements on radiotherapy and physics equipment, computed tomography scanners, and magnetic resonance imaging systems as part of the Medical Physics Quality Assurance Program.



They maintain accurate records of quality control test results; calibrate and maintain patient dosimetry systems and records; support the acquisition of data at the time of patient treatment; participate in research and development projects by conducting experiments, collecting data, analyzing and summarizing data, and preparing reports; assist in commissioning of radiation therapy equipment; contribute to training medical physics residents; and perform other duties as assigned.

The position reports to the Head of the Department of Medical Physics.

Qualifications/Skills

- Undergraduate degree in the physical sciences, engineering, or related science
- Ability work with an interdisciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong measurement, organizational, data management, and analytic skills
- Initiative, problem-solving skills, and adaptability
- Experience in a radiation physics workplace preferred
- Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance
