Position Overview: We are seeking a permanent Power Systems Application Officer to join our Control Centre Technology Systems Department in

Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

- Work with neighboring utilities, MAPP/MISO, industry experts and software Vendor Engineers to develop and maintain

real-time tools/applications and expert systems for use by the system operators and back-office support staff for reliable system planning and operation.
- Assist in the exchange of system knowledge and system data with neighboring utilities, MAPP/MISO, to develop and maintain

the combined system models for their State Estimator, Contingency Analysis and Market System for reliable system operation.
- Review and maintain the accuracy of power system models for network applications and associated advisory programs.
- Assist in compliance activities to ensure adherence to compliance programs and standards relating to the AEMS applications.

This includes documentation, process development, monitoring controls, evidence collection, compliance oversite and self-certification requirements and, participating in audits for TOP-001 R13 and TOP-010.
- Participate in the maintenance and upgrade of the AEMS network applications (Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, State

Estimation, Dynamic Ratings, Parameter Estimation and advisory applications) for the real-time and study mode used by the System Control and the System Performance Departments for the efficient and reliable operation of the Manitoba Hydro system.




- Assist in the creation and implementation of procedures for troubleshooting normal and emergency operating conditions within

the AEMS applications to maintain NERC's Real-time Assessment requirement. Applications include Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, State Estimation, RTDYN, RM/SMTNET and others.
- Participate in the identification, development and implementation of new applications or enhancements to existing AEMS

applications, used by the system operators, to perform offline analysis studies and real-time operational assessments to ensure the reliable and secure operation of the electrical power system.
- Assist in the training of junior engineers, technical officers, and system operators on the use of the AEMS network

applications.
- Provide support for initiatives relating to FAC-011-4 SOL monitoring, including ensuring the accuracy of the model and

reported violations, working with Manitoba Hydro's Reliability Coordinator (MISO) to address discrepancies, and supporting engineers from System Performance Department in their post event analysis.
- Provide on-going support to ensure that the System Performance Department is provided with EMS-related data, including

snapshots of real-time or state-estimated data, reports produced from historical data and feedback on guideline implementations.

- Successful completion of a two-year diploma in Electrical Technology from a recognized technical institute and a minimum of

five years related experience. Specialized courses in power system analysis and energy management software would be an asset. OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have completed Standards of Conduct training or be willing to complete it within two weeks of the start date.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba

Hydro policy G45D.
- Must have a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.




- Good understanding of the electrical behavior of power systems, ranging from high voltage transmission down to distribution

levels, and have the ability to effectively analyze technical problems related to the Manitoba major transmission and interconnected system.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use computer programs intended for power system simulation and State Estimation.
- Must have a good understanding of the electrical characteristics of lines, transformers, generators and loads as they pertain to

power system analysis studies such as load flow, voltage stability, contingency analysis, system optimization.
- Familiarity with the AEMS engineering applications including Power Flow, Contingency Analysis, State Estimation, Remedial

Action Schemes, and RTDYN would be an asset.
- Understanding of control systems (governors, exciters and HVdc power controls) and protective relaying.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Visual Basic, C and SQL would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to obtain cooperation from and deal effectively with people from other departments within Manitoba

Hydro as well as from other companies.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and with diplomacy, both orally and in writing inside and outside the

Corporation.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct, schedule and complete work with minimum supervision.
- Must be tactful and diplomatic with the ability to gain the confidence of others.
- Must possess initiative and mature judgment with the ability to make and implement sound decisions.

Salary Range Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.35-$59.82 Hourly,

$83,070.78-$114,625.68 Annually.
