Role, Compensation and Benefits:

- Role: Preventative Education Facilitator
- Type: Full Time, 37.5hrs/Week
- Hours of Work: Monday-Friday, Some Evenings and Weekends Required
- Duration: September - June 2027
- Location of Work: Okotoks, and Foothills Region

Who We Are: Rowan House Society provides crisis intervention and preventative education to support individuals affected by domestic violence and abuse. We serve a large geographic area in Southern Alberta, including Foothills County, Vulcan County, and MD of Willow Creek.

As of September 2025, Rowan House Society is now a Pet-Friendly Shelter meaning that women and children experiencing Domestic Violence and Abuse will now be able to bring their family pet with them into the Emergency Shelter.

Your Opportunity

Facilitator with the Preventative Education Program The Preventative Education program is a diverse and adaptive approach to bringing awareness to the community about Domestic Violence and Abuse. Through it’s four distinct approaches, the Preventative Education program support clients and the community. These approaches are:

- School Presentations
- Community Presentations
- Healthy Connection Groups
- Domestic Violence and Abuse Trainings

The driving purpose of the Preventative Education Facilitator is to ensure that Rowan House Society clients, as well as the community at large are informed about the impact of domestic violence and abuse. Through quality facilitations, meaningful conversations and shared knowledge the Preventative Education Facilitator can help individuals, and their family’s function in a healthier and more productive manner in all aspects of their lives. As a Preventative Education Facilitator with our team, you can expect a regular work week will include:

Community Based

- Schedule and facilitate educational presentations to children, youth, and teachers in schools,



on aspects of bullying, domestic violence and abuse, and healthy relationships.
- Schedule and facilitate Healthy Connection Groups for clients and community members.
- Coordinate, schedule and provide education and awareness on Rowan House Society programs and information on domestic violence and abuse to new Rowan House Society Employees, Volunteers, Board Members and the community.
- Create an online learning hub to engage the community in learning about the effects of Domestic Violence and Abuse
- Engage with the local Foothills community and build relationships with other agencies through interagency, one-to-one meetings and advocacy in the community.
- Attend awareness events in the community as required.

Administrative:
- Record, compile and report on statistics on the Preventative Education Program
- Complete accurate and timely case notes in Outcome Tracker
- Collaborate with your team and the other programs at Rowan House Society through scheduled meetings, Town Halls and other Rowan House Society Events
- Build your capacity as a facilitator and trauma informed employee by engaging in professional development with your team.
- Ensure you are keeping current on trends and best practices in Domestic Violence and Abuse, trauma informed care, crisis intervention models and company strategic outcomes.

Your Required Qualifications

- Strong facilitation and public speaking abilities backed by experience presenting to diverse audiences (Children to Adults)
- Exceptional public relations, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Strong crisis intervention, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of Programs and ability to adapt to new technology and programs as required




- 2+ Years Experience in a client serving social services related field with preference given to Children’s Services, Victim Services, and services serving those with housing scarcity, addiction and mental health issues.
- Operates with discretion, tact and confidentiality while remaining curious and non-judgmental.

Some Asset Qualifications that are desirable:
- Bachelor of Social Work or other related field with at least two years related experience in community-based services.
- Awareness of the unique cultural and spiritual needs of indigenous individuals, families, and communities. A strong understanding of the realities and issues that impact the Indigenous communities.
- Awareness and understanding of Domestic Violence and Abuse and the impacts it has on children, families and the community.
- Ability to analyze risk and provide strong risk mitigation procedures.

Before beginning your employment with Rowan House, you will REQUIRED to have:
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- A satisfactory Child Intervention Check or proof of submission to IIRC.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification
- Registration with an associated professional body (if applicable).
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clear Driver's Abstract and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions in this Rola:
- This role requires flexibility, and evening and weekend work may be necessary to meet client needs.
- While community-based work is the primary focus, office space is available at our Okotoks location or the Emergency Shelter as needed.
- Occasional lifting of boxes or event kits (up to 20 lbs) and setting up event tents may be required.
- The role may involve periods of sitting at a desk
- Extended periods of computer work may be required.
- Direct or Indirect contact with animals or animal dander (Cat and Dog)
