Civil Engineering Project Engineer-in-Training/Technologist

V3 Companies, a multidisciplinary AEC firm, is seeking a Project Engineer-In-Training/Technologist in our Sherwood Park, AB office, where you will contribute to career-defining projects that reimagine our built and natural world.

You'll change the shape of your community by supporting growth through sustainable urban development creating impact that lasts. And, as part of our team, you will collaborate with 450+ designers, engineers, and scientists to make meaningful, effective change across North America.

Why V3?

V3’s approach is to identify well-rounded individuals interested in both design-oriented work and serving as a resident engineer on construction projects. Because we believe new civil design engineers gain valuable experience by seeing how their team’s designs perform in the real world, you can expect to spend your first few years in this hybrid role, working primarily on-site during construction season and in the office during the winter months.

To provide well-rounded training, we intentionally structure early-career opportunities to offer experience across our service lines, along with exposure to the technical, communication, project delivery, and leadership skills needed to grow as a professional. This could include working on projects in both our Transportation Planning and Design Group and our Land Development Group.

Transportation Planning and Design involves urban and rural roadway projects, underground infrastructure rehabilitation, and rural servicing projects across Central and Northern Alberta. The Land Development Group works on greenfield land and site developments across residential, commercial, and industrial markets.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Work directly with experienced engineers, technologists, project managers, and company leaders to develop professional competencies in technical practice, communication, project delivery, client service, and leadership.

To better understand the practical application of design principles, you will:

- Work closely with Project Managers and our Construction Services Coordinator in executing the tasks required of construction phase consultants on our projects.
- Interpret design drawings for contractors.

- Monitor and observe construction activities for adherence to the design.
- Participate in site meetings at a level commensurate with your expertise.
- Prepare progress payment certificates and inspection reports.
- Serve as a critical resource and communication link with clients, contractors and municipalities.
- Use Leica and Trimble GPS / total station to perform topographic surveys and construction staking.
- Perform as‐built surveys for underground utility and roadway projects and assist in project close‐out activities.

From a design perspective, you will:
- Work closely with Project Managers and Senior Project Engineers to execute the design and construction documents for our projects.
- Participate in the design and drafting of grading, stormwater management and infrastructure improvement plans for land development, transportation, and municipal projects, utilizing Autodesk Civil3D.
- Perform earthwork calculations and surface analysis for earth balance evaluations and contractor payment benchmarks during construction.
- Execute computer simulations for water distribution networks and hydraulic models.
- Support Transportation and traffic study projects as needed.
- Create project unit price schedules and opinions of probable costs.
- Generate construction contract and specification documents.

What we are looking for:

- 0 - 3 years of civil consulting experience.
- Land Development, Municipal Engineering and/or Transportation experience is a plus.
- Registered with APEGA or ASET as an E.I.T., T.T., or C.E.T.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing professional registration and continuous professional growth.
- A desire to develop a broad understanding of consulting practice through exposure to design, construction, project delivery, and client service activities.
- Experience with Construction Surveying and Civil 3D would be considered an asset.

Here’s how we’ll help you grow:
