Thunder Creek Pork Inc. is looking for a Quality Assurance Technician, reporting to the QA Manager. The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for monitoring and verifying food safety, quality and production processes at Thunder Creek Pork Inc. Working in collaboration with Production, Maintenance and other departments, the QA Technician ensures compliance with established GMP, HACCP, food safety and quality standards while supporting the day-to-day efficiency of production, product quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
I. Process Checks
Verify process procedures to ensure compliance to established requirements.
Monitor and enforce GMPs, and communicate corrective actions as required.
Conduct in-process and finished product tests, and audit applicable process SOPs.
Conduct scale and label verification.
Verify the functionality of lab instrumentation and perform equipment calibration checks.
Ensure non-compliant product is segregated and appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
Perform general laboratory duties
II. Audits and Verifications
Monitor processes and identify corrective actions as well as preventative measures.
Investigate customer complaints and collaborate with other departments to resolve complaints.
Troubleshoot quality and production issues and make recommendations to management.
Audit product quality and product specifications.
Maintain HACCP and Food Safety Programs through monitoring and verification
Verify sanitation procedures through pre-operational inspection and microbial swab analysis
III. Documentation
Develop, implement and maintain HACCP/BRC and related programs
Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, verifying and summarizing results and trends.
Document and maintain accurate calibration and other quality assurance records.
Update GMPs as required.
Track and maintain in-house and third party laboratory test results.
IV. Training
Assist in the development of employee GMP training material
Coach employees in all aspects of GMP
Additional duties as required
Requirements
Degree and/or diploma in Quality Assurance, Food Science,
Microbiology or a related science discipline, such as Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biological Sciences.
Minimum one year of experience working as a Quality Assurance Technician in a food manufacturing or meat processing environment is preferred.
Strong understanding of Quality Assurance principle and Food Safety Programs
Experience implementing and maintaining HACCP and GMP programs.
Demonstrated ability to respond to quality and food safety issues with a strong sense of urgency
Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Previous experience with FSEP, ISO 17025 and GFSI-recognized programs, including BRC, FSSC 22000 or SQF, is considered an asset.
Experience with microbiological testing, including GDS testing and 3M plating, is considered an asset.
