Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector to join our custom fabrication team. In this role, you will ensure that every unique, custom-engineered component and assembly meets strict engineering specifications, client requirements, and quality standards. Because we specialize in low-volume, high-variance custom fabrication rather than repetitive mass production, you must possess robust blueprint reading skills, adaptive problem-solving abilities, and mastery over precision measurement tools.

Key Responsibilities

- Visual & Dimensional Inspection: Conduct thorough first-off, in-process, and final inspections on unique custom fabrications to verify compliance with engineering blueprints, CAD drawings, and welding symbols.
- Helping Quality Control Manager set up Quality Systems and controls.
- Precision Measurement: Utilize precision tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measures, and bevel protractors to accurately check tight tolerances.
- Weld Quality Defect Tracking: Inspect structural and cosmetic welds (MIG, TIG, Stick) for defects like porosity, undercut, and cracks in accordance with structural welding codes.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed, accurate inspection logs, generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and compile final Quality Assurance (QA) data packages for clients.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with fabricators, welders, and engineering teams to address deviations immediately on the shop floor and implement root-cause corrective actions.
- Material Receiving Verification: Inspect incoming raw materials, steel profiles, and third-party hardware against purchase orders and material test reports (MTRs) to ensure grade and spec compliance. Position Requirements
- Experience:



Minimum 2–3 years of experience performing quality control inspections directly inside a custom metal fabrication, structural steel, or machining shop environment.
- Blueprint Reading: Expert level ability to interpret complex industrial fabrication blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;), and welding symbols.
- Measurement Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency with mechanical precision measuring instruments and basic calibration techniques.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, bend, and walk on a manufacturing shop floor for extended periods, and safely lift up to 40 lbs.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to constructively explain quality issues and corrective actions to the shop crew.

Qualifications
- Quality control Engineering bachelor or diploma is required.
- Welding Certifications: Valid visual welding inspector credentials (e.g., CWB Level 1 or 2, AWS Certified Welding Inspector) are highly valued.
- NDT Knowledge: Experience or certifications in Non-Destructive Testing methods, specifically Magnetic Particle (MT) or Liquid Penetrant (PT) testing.
- Industry Standards: Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems or related manufacturing compliance structures.
- Trade Background: Previous hands-on experience working as a custom welder, fitter, or machinist.
