Recreation Supervisor

Role Summary

Reporting to the Enrichment Manager, the Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the leadership and day-to-day operation of all recreation, fitness, aquatic, and waterfront experiences. As a luxury hospitality professional, this individual demonstrates a commitment to JW Marriott service culture and LQA (Leading Quality Assurance) standards, ensuring every guest interaction is personalized, engaging, and memorable.

The Recreation

Supervisor leads by example, inspiring associates to deliver exceptional service while maintaining the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and guest satisfaction.

Accountabilities

- Develop and implement seasonal recreation activity guides, programming calendars, and schedules that enhance the guest experience and reflect the resort’s luxury positioning.
- Ensure all recreation programs and experiences are effectively promoted through collaboration with Marketing, Sales, Events, Front Office, and Operations teams.
- Manage recreation budgets, including revenues, expenses, labor costs, productivity, and inventory controls in accordance with financial objectives.
- Monitor, analyze, and report recreation participation statistics, guest engagement metrics, and departmental performance indicators.
- Research industry trends, guest preferences, and luxury hospitality best practices to identify innovative recreation products, services, and experiences.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with third-party vendors, activity providers, and community partners to support exceptional programming.
- Collaborate with Sales, Catering, and Event Operations teams to create customized guest experiences and support group and special event programming.
- Conduct regular inventories of supplies, equipment, uniforms, and materials, ensuring compliance with resort purchasing standards and budget guidelines.
- Encourage, register, and coordinate guest participation in recreation programs while anticipating individual preferences and needs.
- Create a welcoming, engaging, and relaxing environment that reflects JW Marriott's commitment to mindfulness, well-being, and authentic guest experiences.
- Ensure all guests are acknowledged promptly with professional greetings, eye contact, genuine engagement, and use of guest names whenever possible.
- Lead, train, coach, motivate, and recognize recreation associates while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.




- Serve as a role model by consistently demonstrating JW Marriott service behaviors and LQA luxury service standards.
- Ensure all associates receive ongoing training and development related to service standards, safety procedures, recreation programming, and guest engagement.
- Provide immediate assistance and follow established emergency procedures in the event of guest injury, illness, or incident until medical personnel arrive.
- Promote and enforce all recreation department policies, procedures, operating standards, and safety regulations to ensure the well-being of guests and associates.
- Ensure all waivers, documentation, certifications, and operational records are completed and maintained in accordance with company policies.
- Partner with the Enrichment Manager to establish clear performance expectations and developmental goals for recreation associates.
- Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and recognition to enhance engagement, productivity, and professional growth.
- Address guest concerns, service recovery opportunities, requests, and feedback promptly and professionally, ensuring resolution and follow-up.
- Monitor guest satisfaction results, review survey comments, and implement action plans to improve departmental performance and guest experience scores.
- Assist with associate relations matters, performance documentation, coaching conversations, and corrective action processes as required.
- Prepare weekly schedules, monitor labor productivity, and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Issue uniforms and ensure associates consistently meet grooming, appearance, and skilled presentation standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment through active participation in the property's health and safety program.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental initiatives, sustainability programs, and corporate responsibility standards.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and resort objectives.

Requirements

- Minimum one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience in recreation, fitness, hospitality, facility operations, or a related field preferred.
- Two (2) to four (4)



years of progressive recreation, guest experience, or hospitality experience.
- University degree or college diploma in Recreation, Hospitality Management, Kinesiology, Leisure Studies, or a related discipline.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification required.
- National Lifeguard Certification or equivalent considered an asset.
- Proven leadership capabilities with demonstrated success in developing and motivating teams.
- Strong guest service orientation with the ability to anticipate needs and create memorable experiences.
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, labor management, and inventory controls.
- Knowledge of resort operations and familiarity with the Muskoka region, attractions, and guest experiences preferred.
- Proficiency with scheduling, payroll, and hospitality management systems is an asset.

Working Conditions

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, reach, and perform physical activities for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and around aquatic environments.
- Must maintain professional appearance and grooming standards consistent with JW Marriott and LQA expectations.
