The Opportunity:

As the Recreation Operator III, you have the opportunity to oversee the maintenance, repairs and operational readiness of all recreation facilities, facilities that fosters individual and community well-being through a variety of leisure/recreation/wellness services. Those facilities include Genesis Place, Ron Ebbesen Twin Arenas, Plainsmen Arena, and all future recreational facilities. Preventative maintenance and general repairs are a major part of the day-to-day tasks.

A Recreation Operator III offers frequent customer service to recreation staff as well as the user groups and the public.

Responsibilities include

- Perform daily building checks and audits of the facility’s mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and HVAC systems both manually and through the automated control systems
- Perform all scheduled tasks and legislative requirements for swimming pool operations
- Identify preventative maintenance
- Filters preventative maintenance
- Clean/replace strainers
- Monitor and adjust controllers
- Monitor and adjust water levels
- Monitor and adjust UV system
- Regulate water chemistry
- Maintain ice quality and operate resurfacer
- Ice resurfacing
- Edging
- Ice measurements
- Weekly ice maintenance
- Ice removal at end of season




- Change brine socks
- Change dehumidifier filters
- Identify and initiate general repairs; perform work orders in plumbing, carpentry, painting, recreation and leisure assets. Develop preventative maintenance tasks, perform preventative maintenance, create standard operating procedures, create safe work procedures, plan future maintenance projects, supervise on site contractors and oversee projects. Contact contractors to obtain quote and schedule repairs/work
- Maintain the operation systems of the facility – Schedule all recreation asset maintenance tasks (including field house, gymnasium, outdoor athletic park, etc.)
- Act as a mentor/trainer for Recreation Operators 1 & 2 as well as attendants
- Manage quality control and work standards
- Prepare facility and areas of the facility for special programs, events, and services
- Perform snow removal, de-ice including sanding and salting
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S;), Alberta Health Standard and City of Airdrie Health & Safety practices

- Connect and collaborate with the Operators in the Facility Maintenance department to identify issues, troubleshoot, and plan repairs/maintenance on all core asset systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural, life safety)
- Ensuring major work orders are entered into the Maintenance Connection software system for asset condition and budget tracking purposes

You Bring:

- High School Diploma
- Post secondary education in a recreation related field is an asset
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Building Operators Certification (SAIT or equivalent post-secondary institution) or equivalent certification would be an asset
- Advanced Swimming Pool Operator (SAIT Certification) or Level II Pool Operator (Recreation Facility Personnel)
- Arena 2 (Recreation Facility Personnel),
- Building Maintenance 2 would be an asset (Recreation Facility Personnel)
- Minimum 3 years of recreation facility operations and maintenance experience




- High energy level and enjoy working in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment

- Robust written and verbal communication skills
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to quickly align with shifting priorities, work assignments and timelines

Additional Information:

This is a full time, 40 hours per week position includes rotating shifts comprised of morning, evening and weekend shifts.
