Position Summary:

The Release Support Worker will support individuals transitioning from the Edmonton Remand Centre into the community by assisting with release planning, systems navigation and connecting participants to the supports and resources needed to achieve their self-identified goals.

Worker’s role is to support transformational change for participants through strong partnerships with various community resources and support services.

The Release Support

Worker will work together with the participant, in a client-centered approach, to develop integrated plans that address identified needs including education, employment training, financial support, addiction recovery, housing and pro social supports.

Responsibilities:

- Refer and assist participants with completion of application processes and referrals, including but not limited to detox facilities, addictions recovery treatment programs, employment/educational programs and mental health programs




- Work with participants who are incarcerated to implement reintegration plans to ensure a smooth transition back into the community
- Provide ongoing support, consultation and collaboration with multiple professionals and agencies within the community to develop effective safety and support systems for participants
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date data collection, data entry and completion of any program assessments and surveys as directed
- Create and maintain a strong and professional working relationship with probation officers, social workers, correctional services workers and other professionals
- Communicate pertinent information to supervisor and other staff as necessary
- Comply with enCompass Policies and Procedures

Qualifications / Skills:

- Degree or Diploma in Human Services or related field – it is expected that good standing is maintained with any relevant skilled bodies’
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience working with complex, high risk populations using a client centered approach.
- Strong understanding of community resources, knowledge of issues faced by high risk individuals who have experienced significant trauma with high criminogenic factors and are now experiencing homelessness, poverty, and both mental health conditions and substance use
- Strong leadership, teamwork and effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Prior experience completing professional documentation
- Experience working with and understanding the unique challenges faced by Indigenous and multicultural individuals and families, as well as individuals with significant criminal histories




- Effective risk management, advocacy in systems and group facilitation
- Knowledge of role and scope navigation, inclusion and equity and digital literacy
- Criminal Record Check, Enhanced Security Clearance and Children Intervention Check
- Standard First Aid and CPR, Suicide Intervention, Crisis Intervention and De-escalation Training
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license with access to a safe and reliable vehicle, clean drivers abstract, and must have $2 million in liability insurance
- A criminal record will not disqualify you from employment with us; we evaluate each application individually

Conditions of Employment:

- - This position requires 37.5 hours of work per week
- Hours of work are flexible due to the needs of the participants and some evening/weekend work may be required
- The office will be located at the Edmonton Remand Centre
- This is a term position with an anticipated end date of May 24, 2027.
- The anticipated start date is as soon as possible.
