Company Description Outerminds is an independent video game studio based in Montreal, Canada, founded in 2014 by a team of passionate creators: Sylvain Savard, Nicolas Brunet-Messier, Alexandre Caron, and Guiz de Pessemier. The studio has developed solid expertise in creating high-quality games for both mobile platforms and consoles. Outerminds is known for collaborating with major influencers such as Felix Kjellberg (PewDiePie), bringing unique and engaging experiences to a global audience.

Team members join a creative, collaborative environment focused on innovation, craftsmanship, and community-driven projects.

Role Description The Rigger will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving character and object rigs for video game production, ensuring they are animation-ready and perform efficiently in-game. Day-to-day tasks include building skeletal and facial rigs, skinning meshes, setting up controllers, and troubleshooting deformation or performance issues in collaboration with animators and modelers. The role involves working closely with the art and technical teams to ensure rigs meet artistic goals while adhering to engine and pipeline constraints, as well as documenting tools and workflows for consistent use across projects.

This is a fairly small contract based role to make around a dozen rigs, open to fully remote, requiring collaboration with team members.

Qualifications

Strong proficiency in character and prop rigging for games, including skeletal, facial, and mechanical rigs.

Solid experience with industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender, 3ds Max) and rigging tools or plugins.

Understanding of animation principles, deformation, skinning, and topology for efficient, natural movement.

Familiarity with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal) and integration of rigs into real-time environments.

Basic scripting or tool development skills (e.g., Python, MEL) to automate rigging tasks and improve workflows.

Ability to collaborate effectively with artists, animators, and developers, and to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within production deadlines.

Relevant education in 3D animation, game art, computer graphics, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience in video game production or interactive media is an asset; interest in indie games and influencer-led projects is beneficial.
