Part-Time School-Age Child Care Educator (ECE/ECEA/Responsible Adult)

Comox Kidz Discovery Centre Inc. is seeking a warm, reliable and enthusiastic part-time educator to join our school-age childcare program at Valley View Elementary School in Courtenay, beginning in September 2026.

We are creating a welcoming program that emphasizes outdoor play, creativity, positive relationships and a calm, supportive environment for children. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with school-age children and values being part of a dependable and caring team.

Position details

- Monday to Friday, 2:00–6:00 p.m.
- Four regularly scheduled working hours per day
- An additional 0.5 paid hour is provided each day when the full scheduled shift is completed
- Total of 22.5 paid hours per week
- Starting wage of $20–$21 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
- Eligible certified ECEs may qualify for the B.C. ECE Wage Enhancement in addition to their regular hourly wage, subject to provincial eligibility and funding approval
- Additional hours may be available on Pro-D days and early-dismissal days
- This position generally follows the SD71 school calendar

Responsibilities
- Provide attentive and active supervision of school-age children
- Help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
- Plan and participate in age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities
- Support children’s social-emotional development using positive guidance
- Assist with daily setup, cleanup and organization of program spaces
- Maintain accurate attendance and follow safe-release procedures
- Communicate respectfully with children, families and coworkers




- Follow licensing requirements, centre policies and emergency procedures
- Respond appropriately to first-aid and safety situations
- Work cooperatively as part of a supportive childcare team

Qualifications Applicants must hold, or obtain before beginning employment, one of the following:
- A valid Early Childhood Educator certificate
- A valid Early Childhood Educator Assistant certificate
- Responsible Adult qualifications, including at least 20 hours of recognized child-development training

Applicants must also have:
- Current Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR certification
- A explicit criminal record check
- Two satisfactory references
- Reliable availability for the Monday-to-Friday schedule
- A positive, patient and dependable approach to working with children

Previous experience working with school-age children is preferred, but we welcome applicants who are enthusiastic, responsible and eager to learn.
