Vancouver School Portraits (VSP) is a specialized modern school photography provider serving preschools, daycares, and early childhood centers across the Lower Mainland. We partner with school directors to make photo day structured, efficient, and completely stress-free for administration and staff.

We are seeking experienced professional photographers to join our seasonal associate team for weekday morning photo shoots during our busy spring and fall seasons. This role is ideal for skilled portrait photographers who love working with young children but prefer to focus entirely on capturing great images without managing administrative tasks, client emails, post-processing, or marketing.

You shoot. You cull. We handle the rest.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage On-Site Photo Day Operations: Execute efficient, timely portrait sessions at preschools and daycares, staying on schedule to respect classroom routines and staff time.
- Child Engagement: Use warm, age-appropriate techniques to quickly build rapport with toddlers and preschoolers, drawing out natural expressions and authentic smiles in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Quality Control: Set up and operate lighting equipment, ensuring consistent exposures, accurate color balance, proper framing, and sharp focus across all student portraits.
- Image Delivery: Image selection and culling immediately following the shoot according to VSP guidelines.
- Professional Representation: Act as a reliable, polished point of contact on photo days, representing the VSP brand with care and efficiency.

Requirements & Qualifications

- Professional Experience: Proven experience in volume, portrait, or school photography. (Note:



This position requires technical camera proficiency and experience working under tight timelines. It is not suitable for entry-level applicants or hobbyists.)
- Technical Mastery: In-depth understanding of manual camera settings, off-camera flash/lighting setups, and exposure techniques.
- Early Childhood Rapport: Demonstrated ability to engage young children (ages 1–5) patiently, comfortably, and enthusiastically.
- Professional Gear: Own reliable, professional-grade DSLR or mirrorless camera body, and portrait lenses. Lighting and backdrop equipment will be provided by the company.
- Reliability & Schedule: Flexible weekday morning (and occasionally afternoon) availability during peak seasons (Spring/Fall) and absolute reliability once shoot days are committed.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for travel to school locations throughout the Lower Mainland.
- Background Check: Successful candidate must complete a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
