Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM -4:30 PM & Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Summer Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Duration of Position: August 25, 2026 - August 20, 2027

ABOUT THE POSITION: Grasslands Public Schools is seeking a School Wellness Mentor to join our Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) team under a full-time term contract.
Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) works to promote mental, emotional, and social well-being, and protect against negative outcomes by bolstering resilience through skill development for children, youth, and families in the communities where they live. The initiative is based on research and best practices that demonstrate that mental and emotional well-being can be developed, nurtured, and supported through promotion and prevention efforts. MHCB programming builds capacity of knowledge and skills and strengthens protective factors in children and youth so they can achieve the best possible health outcomes across their lifespan.
Operating 12 months a year, Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) programs deliver evidence-based promotion and prevention strategies directly within schools. MHCB provides practical tools and resources to foster youth mental well-being and social-emotional development. During the summer months, the initiative extends into the broader community deleveloping and attending events and programs to raise awareness, build resilience, and actively reduce mental health stigma.

Newell, with a student population of about 3,577. We have three elementary school locations within the City of Brooks and seven rural locations throughout the County of Newell in addition to seven colony school locations.

Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate social emotional learning activities to students.
- Develop and implement classroom Universal Mental Health Programs that are specific to each school’s needs.
- Deliver programming and initiatives through public speaking format.
- Identify and utilize community resources to meet the needs of, or enhance services for, persons served.
- Deliver services that may extend outside of regular operating hours.
- Travel between schools as required to provide services.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or relevant training in a health or social sciences field is preferred.
- Proven experience in addiction and mental health services.
- Experience working with diverse and multicultural populations.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and adults in large and small group settings.
