Our client, The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is seeking a Senior Account Manager. The role will be based in in Calgary, Alberta, with frequent travel to Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
The Senior Account Manager is responsible for driving the strategic growth and commercial development of the Port of Prince Rupert by building strong customer relationships, identifying current business opportunities, and expanding the Port’s presence in domestic and international markets. This position serves as a key representative of PRPA, actively engaging with existing customers, prospective clients, industry stakeholders, and supply chain partners to attract new business, increase cargo volumes, and support long-term gateway growth.
The Senior Account Manager plays a critical role in understanding market dynamics, customer needs, and emerging trade trends to identify opportunities for cargo diversification, terminal utilization, logistics development, and strategic partnerships. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders, this position champions the Port’s commercial objectives and enhancing its competitive position as North America's premier trade gateway.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic account management and business development plans aligned with PRPA's corporate objectives, trade growth priorities, and long-term gateway development strategy
- Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with existing customers, prospective customers, shipping lines, terminal operators, logistics providers, rail partners, importers, exporters, and other key supply chain stakeholders
- Identify, evaluate, and actively pursue new business opportunities that support cargo growth, market diversification, terminal utilization, and revenue generation across the Port's portfolio
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts,
ensuring a high level of customer engagement, responsiveness, and ongoing relationship management
- Conduct regular customer visits, market outreach activities, and business development meetings throughout domestic and international markets to promote the Port of Prince Rupert and its competitive advantages
- Represent PRPA at trade shows, conferences, customer events, and industry forums to enhance market visibility and generate new business opportunities
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of global trade patterns, supply chain trends, market conditions, and competitive gateways to identify opportunities and potential business risks
- Work closely with operations, infrastructure, environmental, finance, real estate, and executive leadership teams to advance customer opportunities and facilitate successful project implementation
- Support the development of business cases related to new services, terminal opportunities, strategic partnerships, and gateway expansion initiatives
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and account portfolio, tracking opportunities from initial engagement through implementation and ongoing relationship management
- In collaboration with others conduct market research, competitive analysis, and customer assessments to support strategic planning, commercial decision-making, and business development activities
- Prepare business development reports, market assessments, customer presentations,
and strategic recommendations for senior management
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of PRPA facilities, infrastructure developments, operational capabilities, and future growth opportunities to effectively represent the Port in the marketplace
- Travel, both domestically and internationally, to develop customer relationships, pursue new business opportunities, support trade development initiatives, and represent PRPA in key strategic markets.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
- Occasionally required to work in operational environments, including terminals and marine facilities, and in adverse weather conditions
Experience, Qualifications & Attributes
- Post‑secondary degree in business, supply chain logistics, transportation, economics, or a related field
- Master’s degree (MBA or similar) is considered an asset
- Minimum of eight to ten years of progressive experience in port operations, transportation, supply chain logistics, sales, or business development roles
- Strong strategic planning, commercial, negotiating, and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders and present to Boards and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to lead through influence in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment
- Strong business acumen, including experience evaluating opportunities, risks, and returns
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships across public and private sectors
- High level of judgment, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential and sensitive matters
- Able to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance
- Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and a Canadian passport
