The Senior Architectural Designer will assist in the lead of design and documentation for custom residential projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing design concepts, preparing detailed architectural drawings, developing 3D models, and ensuring that designs comply with local building codes and zoning regulations. The role also involves mentoring junior team members, contributing to project schedules and deliverables, and collaborating closely with the wider design team to maintain Sakora Design’s standards of quality and innovation.
- Produce accurate and detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for multiple ongoing custom residential projects.
- Work closely with the Principal Designer to develop and refine floor plans, exterior elevations, massing, architectural details, and overall design concepts.
- Review and interpret municipal zoning by-laws, Conservation Authority requirements, and other applicable governing regulations to establish permitted building size, setbacks, lot coverage, height, and other site-specific design parameters.
- Develop comprehensive design development and zoning drawing packages with the guidance and oversight of the Principal Designer.
- Independently review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, coordination, and consistency before submitting work for internal review.
- Make revisions to drawings and models efficiently based on Principal Designer markups, client feedback, municipal comments, and consultant coordination.
- Identify potential design, zoning, and coordination issues and proactively bring forward solutions to the Principal Designer and project team.
- Ensure project drawings and models are organized and produced in accordance with Sakora Design's internal standards and workflows.
The ideal candidate is an experienced residential designer who is equally comfortable designing, modelling, drafting, and navigating zoning requirements. They possess a solid design eye and the ability to translate concepts into thoughtful, well-resolved residential designs.
They are confident reviewing a property and its applicable zoning requirements, identifying site constraints and opportunities, and using that information to help inform the design from the outset. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in producing detailed 2D drawings and 3D models, takes ownership of the accuracy and quality of their work, and can independently review drawings before they progress to the next stage.
They are also highly organized, detail-oriented, and receptive to collaboration, with the ability to efficiently incorporate feedback, markups, and evolving project requirements while maintaining a high standard of design and documentation.
