Omachron Science Inc. (OSI) is a small family-owned company located in Hampton, Ontario Canada doing research and development for the past 45 + years. Omachron has worked with numerous companies to provide a wide range of products to the market including water treatment systems, small appliances, plastics manufacturing, LED lighting, recycling, food growing and more.

Description

Omachron Science is seeking a skilled, motivated, and creative Glass Blower to join our team and play a key role in establishing and developing our new glassworks.

We are seeking an individual with strong glassblowing skills, creativity, initiative, and a passion for experimentation to help establish our hot-work workshop and develop a wide range of prototypes, including small multipart production runs.

This is an exciting opportunity to help build the glassworking capabilities of the organization from the ground up and to work at the intersection of traditional glass craftsmanship, advanced materials science, engineering, and product development.

The successful candidate will take a leading role in the design and production of hand-blown glass artwork, experimental prototypes, and architectural glass projects. Working closely with the Chief Scientist and Head of Design, the role will focus on developing new techniques, processes, materials, and products as our research progresses.

As the glassworks grows, this position will also have the opportunity to provide leadership and supervision to additional artists and glassblowers.

Duties

· Gather, shape, blow, and finish glass pieces using traditional hot-shop techniques.





· Lead artists and glassblowers during production and installation projects.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hot-shop environment.

· Assist with furnace and equipment selection, maintenance, studio operations, and daily shop responsibilities.

· Prepare materials, colour applications, molds, and tools for production.

· Demonstrate techniques and educate staff to support the development of new products and processes with optimal manufacturability in mind.

· Collaborate with engineers, scientists, artists, designers, and studio staff on custom commissions and large-scale projects.

· Contribute to the ongoing development of innovative glass processes, materials, and applications.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· Foundational to advanced experience in hot-glass blowing techniques.

· Experience blowing sheet glass, or assisting with sheet-glass blowing processes, is preferred.

· Experience with production glassblowing, studio assistance, or educational demonstrations is an asset.

· Ability to work safely and effectively in a physically demanding hot-shop environment, including prolonged standing and exposure to high temperatures.

· Ability to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.

· Ability to work consistently for several hours at a time in a demanding production environment.

· Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.

· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

· Strong interest in art, craftsmanship, experimentation, and creative problem-solving.





· Demonstrated ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
