Job Overview
We are urgently looking for experienced midwives to fill locum positions in our three village maternities (Puvirnituq, Salluit, Inukjuak) from July through September and to cover winter holiday needs. These short‑term assignments will support both local and southern midwifery staff during absences and contribute to the ongoing education of students.
Responsibilities
Assist in the day‑to‑day functioning of the maternity ward, including labour, delivery, and post‑natal care of Inuit women.
Collaborate closely with local staff, other physicians and nursing personnel, and community service workers to provide comprehensive care.
Act as a mentor and instructor, helping to develop and deliver the midwifery education program to students and community members.
Participate in the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the program.
Minimum Requirements
Authorization to work in Canada (citizenship, PR, or valid work permit).
Current Obstetric Emergency Skills certification (within 3 years).
Updated Neonatal Resuscitation certification,
including intubation (within 2 years).
At least 1 year of clinical midwifery practice (preferred).
Fluency in English; ability to speak and write French is an asset but not required.
Autonomy, initiative, teaching skills, and a capacity to listen.
Experience in northern and/or cross‑cultural settings is an asset.
Eligibility for registration with the OSFQ (reciprocity available for registered midwives in other Canadian provinces or territories; current registrants from outside Quebec cannot register with the OSFQ).
Conditions
Base salary between $42 and $62 per hour (based on experience).
Isolation and remote practice bonus ($8,848 – $15,595 per year).
Food allowance ($6,034 per year).
Paid overtime.
Paid travel costs.
Furnished lodging provided by employer.
