HDR Engineering is seeking a Substation Electrical EIT to join our team of Power Delivery professionals. The role involves design of substation projects ranging from simple device replacements to large greenfield sites.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations (low, medium, high voltage).
- Collaborate with Designers and CADD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications.
- Develop design deliverables including one‑line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, communications plans, substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC and DC systems calculations and sizing, and substation grounding.
- Perform site visits during design, construction, and as‑built phases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of substation design experience in P&C; or physical design.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Robust attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Self‑motivated and able to take initiative.
- Exposure to general Civil Engineering experience a plus.
- Prior experience in both P&C; and physical substation design considered a plus.
- Experience using AutoCAD and/or Microstation considered a plus.
- Prior experience consulting or working for an electric utility considered a plus.
- Experience with electrical design software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower considered a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office.

Compensation and Location
Pay range (Vancouver, BC): $75,548 – $102,212.
Primary Location: Calgary, Alberta. Other Locations: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Vancouver, British Columbia.
