Job Function
Support the Director – Enterprise Architecture by leading the architectural strategy, governance, and sustainment of Hydro One’s Grid Technology (GT) platforms including ADMS, EMS, GIS, SCADA, DERMS, and related grid control systems. This role contributes to:
(a) achievement of corporate performance targets
(b) compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
(c) fulfillment of customer and stakeholder expectations
(d) safety and reliability of grid operations
(e) efficiency and modernization of the Ontario electricity system.
The role includes tracking industry trends, collaborating with internal partners and external authorities (e.g., IESO, NERC, vendors), assessing system performance, and implementing architectural practices that ensure alignment with business strategy and enterprise standards.
General Accountabilities
- Assist the Director – Enterprise Architecture in work planning, resource planning, and setting strategic direction for grid technologies architecture.
- Provide governance oversight in the performance of Grid Technology (GT) investments and their alignment with enterprise business value realization.
- Represent the Enterprise Architecture team in collaboration with Hydro One Lines of Business (LOBs) to address operational and service requirements.
- Provide direction and input to strategic business planning processes related to grid modernization and control systems.
Specific Accountabilities
- Provide leadership and strategic direction relating to systems architecture for grid control platforms including ADMS, EMS, GIS, SCADA, and DERMS.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction relating to systems architecture for field work management and asset management systems.
- Collaborate with senior management and LOBs to identify corrective actions and improvement opportunities across operational technologies.
- Develop architectural strategies and roadmaps for GT platforms, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage a group of architecture specialists to develop integrated technology solutions leveraging grid control and field operations assets.
- Provide strategic advice and collaborate with other domain architects and solution teams in the execution of GT architecture activities.
- Govern solution designs through the Architecture Review Board (ARB), ensuring compliance with standards and timely delivery.
- Lead modeling efforts in Ardoq for GT domains, ensuring consistency and data quality.
- Manage external consultants and service providers supporting grid technology initiatives.
- Represent Hydro One in industry forums and vendor user groups to stay abreast of trends and best practices.
- Communicate at executive level to link grid architecture opportunities with strategic goals.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with corporate policies and standards, and oversee implementation of improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap and resource plan for grid technologies architecture.
- Ensure staffing strategies support long-term sustainment of high-expertise resources in OT platforms.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of complex projects and processes supporting grid control and work management systems.
- Evaluate options and synthesize optimal specifications and plans for enhancements to grid technologies and field systems.
- Develop budgetary and Class A estimates for grid technology alternatives for business planning and work programming.
- Ensure grid control platforms meet reliability, security, and performance expectations.
- Integrate corporate objectives and regulatory requirements with technology trends to guide evolution of grid systems.
- Conduct service and performance reviews, contract management, and vendor compliance monitoring.
- Participate in the definition of strategic satisfaction measures for scorecards, SLAs, and business planning; arrange for data collection and reporting.
Managerial Accountabilities
- Provide leadership and sponsorship in key grid modernization and GT initiatives.
- Manage financial performance of grid technology architecture programs in accordance with Hydro One’s investment framework.
- Manage career development of subordinates through goal alignment, performance reviews, and training plans.
- Provide other managerial and administrative duties as required.
Demonstrated Management Skills
- Relevant experience in governance and management of operational technology platforms.
- Deep understanding of grid control systems (ADMS, EMS, GIS, SCADA, DERMS) and their integration with enterprise systems.
- Deep understanding of work management and asset management systems (Computer Aided Dispatch, SAP Work Manager, etc) and their integration with enterprise systems.
- Relevant experience in the ITIL framework and other IT standard of best practices.
- Experience in financial management and control of GT programs.
- Strong communication skills in translating architecture strategy to operational outcomes.
- Ability to assess enterprise risk and recommend appropriate remediation strategies.
- Ability to influence behavior and drive adoption of architecture practices.
- Ability to lead and work in multi-disciplinary teams and drive completion of deliverables.
- Strategic business thinking – ability to apply technical knowledge to management decisions that achieve business objectives.
- Team leadership – ability to lead architecture teams and foster collaboration across departments
This is a hybrid position requiring the successful candidate to work in office in Toronto a minimum of two (2) days per week
Pay Rate Range
Min Pay Rate: $150
Max Pay Rate: $170
Currency: CAD
Unit: hourly
