About nymble nymble health is a Canadian digital health company delivering automated behavioral support for metabolic health over SMS, WhatsApp, and API - no app required. We operate in Canada, Ireland, Germany, and the US, supporting pharma patient support programs, virtual care providers, pharmacies, and direct-to-consumer patients. We're physician-founded, bootstrapped, and recently won the 2026 American Diabetes Association Innovation Challenge - the first Canadian company to do so.
About the role
We're bringing on a senior Python engineer on contract from Sept to November to ramp up capacity and provide coverage while some resources are away. There is a real opportunity to extend or convert to a longer-term role for the right person.
This is a hands-on role for someone who works fluently with AI coding agents and thrives in a small, high-trust engineering environment.
Most important: AI-agent leverage
Our development system is built to effectively leverage AI coding agents, and we want a contractor who can push that further, not work around it.
- Runs multiple AI coding-agent sessions in parallel using git worktrees
- Builds reusable agent playbooks, skills, hooks, and routines
- Can work in and evolve a development system that leans heavily on automation (extensive testing, operational harness, etc.)
Core technical requirements
- Python 3.12, Flask 3.x, SQLAlchemy 2.0
- Postgres (psycopg3)
- REST API design, Git / PR-based workflow, CI-gated development, GitHub Actions
Specific to our stack
- LLM application: OpenAI SDK, structured output,
Pinecone for vector search / RAG
- Messaging and telephony: Twilio SDK (SMS / WhatsApp), delivery-status webhooks
- Azure: Blob Storage, Azure Monitor / OpenTelemetry
- Infra-as-code: OpenTofu / Terraform-style modules spanning servers, customer config, Twilio settings, Cloudflare, and alerting
Principled engineering
- Separation of concerns - business logic independent of how it's triggered and how it's stored
- Domain modeling that makes invalid states impossible
- Modularity - small, intentional interfaces between modules so one can change without cascading edits
- Understands LLM behavior in the app - prompt design, non-determinism, evaluating whether a change made responses better or worse
- Secret and credential hygiene - never lets a secret touch a log, commit, or prompt; understands why rotation matters
- Docs-as-part-of-the-change - writes down the "why" as they go, not after the fact
- Cost-consciousness - aware that LLM calls and cloud infra cost real money per-request
- Rapid codebase orientation - finds and follows existing conventions quickly rather than guessing or reinventing
Nice to have
- Prior experience in PHI, PII, or similarly regulated environments (healthcare, fintech, insurance)
- On-call and incident-response experience on a small team
- Familiarity with Nix To apply
- Send a short note and a link to your GitHub, portfolio, or relevant work to
[email protected]. We're moving quickly - candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis and we're aiming to have someone onboarded by the end of August.
