This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Marketing Platform Tooling based in Canada.
This is a high-ownership backend engineering role focused on building the infrastructure that powers large-scale marketing and customer engagement capabilities.
You will work on production-grade targeting and CRM messaging platforms responsible for processing audience data and delivering millions of personalized messages.
The role combines greenfield development with the evolution of critical distributed systems, data pipelines, APIs, and shared platform foundations.
You will have direct influence over technical direction, architecture, roadmap decisions, and the reliability of systems used by multiple teams.
The environment emphasizes scalability, observability, testing, operational excellence, and clean, maintainable code.
You will collaborate extensively across engineering and business functions while owning projects and technical workstreams from planning through production.

Accountabilities:
- Architect, build, and maintain reliable, scalable backend applications and shared platform infrastructure.
- Develop and operate real-time streaming and batch data ingestion and processing pipelines that keep targeting data accurate and current.
- Design segment evaluation and audience-matching services capable of serving multiple downstream consumers at scale.
- Build and improve high-volume messaging and delivery pipelines supporting reliable, timely, and personalized customer communications.
- Develop shared APIs and composable platform foundations that enable other teams to build marketing capabilities efficiently.
- Design distributed services and data systems with strong emphasis on scalability, reliability, observability, testing, and uptime.
- Help define the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for targeting and CRM platform capabilities.
- Take ownership of high-visibility platform components and drive their development, deployment, operation, and long-term maintenance.
- Lead technical workstreams from planning and decision-making through delivery and production support.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, maintainability, and engineering efficiency.
- Communicate effectively across engineering teams and business functions to build consensus, align priorities, and resolve technical challenges.
- Contribute to engineering best practices through rigorous testing, clean code, practical problem-solving, and thoughtful technical design.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend software development experience with a demonstrated record of delivering high-quality systems.
- Robust backend development expertise, particularly with Ruby and Go; Python experience is an asset.
- Solid knowledge of Rails or Pandas and modern backend development practices.
- Proven experience designing and operating scalable, reliable distributed systems.
- Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and data-intensive applications.
- Experience designing and operating both batch and real-time streaming data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of software reliability, scalability, testing, observability, and production operations.
- Demonstrated ability to write rigorous unit tests and solve complex technical problems pragmatically.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and work effectively across functions.
- Strong ownership mindset, with the ability to independently plan work, make decisions, deliver solutions, and maintain production systems.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering,
or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to thrive in a remote, highly collaborative environment where engineers have significant autonomy and responsibility.

- Competitive Canadian base salary of $168,000–$177,500 CAD, depending on permanent work location, experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
