The Department of Political Science at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach in the Fall 2026 semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person. It has been time-tabled for Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00 - 5:15 PM.

POLS 2020 Politics and Government of PEI

This course examines Prince Edward Island's political parties, electoral system, pressure groups, and political culture. The course includes examinations of the relationship between the Island’s electoral system and its political parties, attempts at electoral reform, as well as case studies focusing on key Island elections. Public policy issues such as health care, housing, inter-provincial trade and general economic development are also covered.

Lecture: Three hours a week

Time: M/W 4:00-5:15

Dates: 2026-09-08 to 2026-12-18

Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have, at a minimum, a Master’s degree in Political Science or the equivalent in a cognate discipline such as Law. A PhD in Political Science is preferred. As well, candidates should have an academic background studying the politics and government of Prince Edward Island. Real world experience in the general aspects of PEI governance, such as its legislative assembly, elections,



and public policy, would be considered an asset.

Members of the Department of Political Science’s Sessional Roster or those who have taught the course before will be given priority in consideration for this position.
