Shop Hand/Cabinet Maker

WHO WE ARE:
We are a fully incorporated medium sized Design + Build company based in Vancouver British Columbia run by a dynamic wife + husband team. We work in high-end homes and condos, reimagining spaces and creating custom builds and full-scale renovations for our clients.
We are looking for a Cabinet Maker who can work with the shop team to create custom furniture, cabinets, millwork, manufacturing and assembly for all our projects. The ideal candidate is responsible for ensuring that required quality standards are met for every project and that tasks are completed in a protected and timely manner. We are looking for long term employees who can grow with the company - we have big plans!
We work hard and have very high standards in quality, but we also have a fun team and like to keep the vibe light while working.
You will have a direct manager to report to and who will give you an overview of what the job entails and answer any questions you may have, but some of the general work you can expect to do is as follows:
DUTIES:
- Planning an effective approach to work to ensure that each project is completed on time
- Read and interpret shop drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Selecting the appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task
- Creating standard and custom components of cabinets
- Inspecting each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied
- Follow shop drawings accurately and complete projects within the timeline allotted
- Manufacture furniture and cabinetry (cut, sand, laminate,
taping, edge banding, building cabinet boxes, packaging etc.)
- Assist in handling large sheets of materials
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Experience using and operating all shop tools safely
- Be in communication with the Head Contractor about work progress and any issues that may arise
- Load, unload and transport construction materials
- Install work on site when needed
- Experience with veneering, laminating, building out of solids and composites
Owning your own vehicle would be an asset (although not a requirement if you are a savvy transit goer) as we have a variety of job sites throughout Vancouver which you would be responsible for getting yourself to and from.Our shop team works 10 hour days, 4 days a week.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BC Driver’s License (manual transmission)
- Good physical condition and stamina (can lift 50lbs)
- Communicate well in English
- Be able to do physical work for an 10-hour shift
- Good arithmetic skills
- Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years carpentry experience
- Prior experience as a Cabinet Maker, with a portfolio of completed works
- The ability to visualize spaces to create appropriate furniture
- A good understanding of the construction process
- Familiar reading plans and details
- Red seal cabinet maker would be an asset
