Overview The Birchmount Bluffs Neighborhood Centre (BBNC) is a charitable, multi-service neighbourhood-based organization that offers a range of recreation, fitness, social and learning programs to all members of the community. We welcome people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities to participate in our programs and services.
The mission of BBNC is to collaborate with individuals, families, and communities to overcome barriers and enhance quality of life. We do this by fostering social inclusion, developing skills and abilities, and collaborating with our partners to facilitate access to flexible and responsive programs and services.
BBNC is seeking a responsible, organized, and enthusiastic Site Lead to provide day-to-day leadership and operational support for our After School Program. The Site Lead will act as the primary on-site lead during program hours and will work closely with the Program Coordinator, After School Program Leaders, participants, and families to ensure the program operates safely, smoothly, and effectively.
The Site Lead will support the Program Leaders with activity delivery and participant needs while also taking responsibility for the overall organization of the site. This includes monitoring attendance, supporting staff, maintaining communication with families and supervisors, responding to concerns, ensuring program spaces are properly prepared, and helping maintain a positive and welcoming setting.
Key Responsibilities
Site Operations and Program Delivery
- Oversee the daily operation of the After School Program at the assigned BBNC site.
- Serve as the main on-site point of contact for program staff, participants, and families during program hours.
- Work alongside Program Leaders to ensure activities and daily programming are delivered according to the established schedule and program plans.
- Help organize daily activities, transitions, snack periods, recreational activities, and other program routines.
- Review the daily program schedule and ensure staff are aware of responsibilities and upcoming activities.
- Ensure program areas are prepared, organized, clean, and appropriate for the activities being offered.
- Support the team in adapting activities when attendance, participant needs, weather, staffing, or other circumstances require changes.
- Monitor the overall participant experience and identify opportunities to improve program delivery.
Staff Leadership and Support
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to After School Program Leaders and volunteers.
- Help Program Leaders understand their responsibilities, schedules, routines, and program expectations.
- Assign and coordinate staff responsibilities during program hours as directed by the Program Coordinator.
- Provide feedback and coaching to staff to support effective program delivery and positive participant interactions.
- Identify staff concerns, performance issues, or training needs and communicate them to the Program Coordinator.
- Support the onboarding and orientation of new Program Leaders and volunteers.
- Help create a positive, respectful, and collaborative team environment.
Participant Safety and Behaviour Support
- Maintain active supervision of children throughout program hours and ensure appropriate supervision practices are followed.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
- Support Program Leaders in managing challenging behaviours and participant conflicts using appropriate and positive approaches.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies, injuries, behavioural concerns, and other situations requiring immediate attention.
- Follow BBNC policies and procedures when responding to incidents, emergencies, or safety concerns.
- Complete and submit incident documentation accurately and promptly when required.
- Report serious incidents, safety concerns, or other significant issues to the Program Coordinator or designated supervisor.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for participant arrivals, departures, authorized pickups, and other attendance-related responsibilities.
Communication and Family Relations
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with children, parents/guardians, staff, volunteers, and BBNC representatives.
- Serve as a first point of contact for general questions or concerns from parents and guardians during program hours.
- Communicate program updates, schedule changes, reminders, and other relevant information to families as directed.
- Bring participant or family concerns to the Program Coordinator when additional support or follow-up is required.
Attendance and Administration
- Monitor daily participant attendance and ensure records are completed accurately.
- Assist with registration-related questions and direct families to the appropriate BBNC staff when needed.
- Maintain required program records, checklists, logs, and other documentation.
- Assist with collecting information required for program reporting and evaluation.
- Communicate attendance concerns, recurring issues, or other relevant program information to the Program Coordinator.
- Assist with the preparation of program calendars, schedules, notices, newsletters, and other communications when required.
Program Support and Evaluation
- Work with the Program Coordinator and Program Leaders to identify ways to strengthen the After School Program.
- Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities based on participant interests and needs.
- Participate in program evaluations, feedback collection, and staff discussions.
- Share observations and recommendations regarding program activities, staffing, participant engagement, and site operations.
What you will bring to the BBNC Team:
- Post-secondary education in Recreation, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Education, Social Services, Community Development, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Previous experience working with children in an after-school, recreation, camp, childcare, education, or community setting.
- Previous experience providing leadership, direction, or supervision to staff or volunteers is considered an asset.
- Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and with different abilities and needs.
- Strong organizational, leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
- Ability to take initiative and make appropriate decisions within the scope of the position.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting and collaborating with a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities during a busy program period.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, or willingness to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
- HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset and/or willingness to complete the required training.
- Vulnerable Sector Check required.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
