Skilled Labourer — Shop & Site Support

About Modern Edge Industries

Modern Edge Industries (MEI) is a CISC- and CWB-certified structural and architectural steel fabrication company based out of south Shawnigan Lake. We build high-end staircases, railings, and structural steel work for residential and commercial projects across Vancouver Island. Our shop runs on continuous improvement principles, because a clean, organized, efficient shop floor is how a 13-person team competes and grows.

We're scaling — new equipment, a purpose-built facility, and bigger projects are on the horizon. We're looking for a versatile, reliable person who can move between shop and site work as the day demands.

What You'll Do

- Handle and stage material — moving, organizing, and prepping steel stock and finished components for jobs
- Prep and apply paint/coatings on fabricated steel components (staircases, railings, structural pieces)
- Keep the shop floor clean, organized, and safe — we run 2 Second Lean, not "find it later"
- Drive the shop truck for material pickups, deliveries, and site runs as needed
- Support install crews on-site when required — this role flexes between shop and site, not fixed to one or the other
- Assist fabricators and installers with general labour as projects require
- Follow all safety policies and use PPE properly, every time

What You Bring




- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record — you'll be driving the shop truck regularly
- Physically capable of material handling: lifting, moving, and staging steel stock
- Comfortable working both in the shop and outdoors on job sites
- Painting or coating experience is an asset, but we'll train the right person
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded
- Willingness to learn and take direction from fabricators, installers, and supervisors
- Prior experience in construction, fabrication, or a shop environment is an asset but not required — this is an entry-friendly role for someone motivated to grow
