Role Description The Sound Design Instructor is a part-time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC, responsible for delivering lectures and demonstrations, grading project work, and providing constructive feedback to students in the Foundation Visual Art & Design Program. The instructor will also mentor students through the final stages of mixing short films. This role includes delivering production-focused course materials, assignments, and assessments aligned with current industry practices and program outcomes, and collaborating with other faculty and program leadership to maintain a cohesive curriculum,



support interdisciplinary projects, and foster a professional, inclusive learning environment.

The instructor is expected to stay current with emerging sound technologies, workflows, and creative trends, and integrate them into classroom activities and student projects.

Qualifications

- Strong teaching and training abilities, including experience in classroom instruction, workshops, or mentoring in sound design or a related discipline.
- Professional experience in sound design for film, television, games, or visual media, with a robust portfolio or credits demonstrating industry-level work.
- Proficiency with industry-standard audio tools and workflows (the course focuses on recording techniques, sound libraries, and mixing/editing for picture in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to an inclusive, respectful classroom environment.
- Ability to give clear, actionable feedback and support students in developing creative and technical skills under tight production timelines.
- Relevant post-secondary education in audio, sound design, film, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Post-secondary teaching or vocational training experience is an asset; familiarity with visual media production pipelines is required.
