Position Title: Finance Accountant

What Is The Opportunity?
Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Finance Accountant will support the day‑to‑day accounting functions of multiple business units. The candidate will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with procedures, and optimizing financial performance within Aecon Transportation West & Foundations.
What You'll Do Here:
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date financial records,
including billed and unbilled revenues.
- Monitor and analyze costs related to finished‑good production and inventory movements.
- Drive the month‑end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, elimination entries, recurring entries, and accruals.
- Conduct standard costing reviews to assess the accuracy and efficiency of inventory valuations.
- Support inventory accounting processes, including reconciliation of stockpiles, work‑in‑progress, and finished goods.
- Manage and maintain Asset Retirement Obligations, including ongoing review of assumptions, accretion and compliance.
- Review monthly/quarterly deliverables from internal projects or business units.
- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations and coordinate with necessary Aecon divisions and shared services to address variances.
- Conduct intercompany reconciliations, confirmations of intercompany balances, and coordination of transactions.
- Prepare monthly management report deliverables.
- Assist with internal and external audit activities.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and/or financial statement notes.
- Research IFRS as needed to ensure Aecon policies and procedures are compliant with IFRS.
- Assist with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes as required.
- Liaise with other Aecon departments as required.
- Maintain respect, effective communication,
and relationships with management and staff of all levels.
- Prepare HST, GST, PST, QST returns, filings, and reconciliations.
- Analyze accounts and prepare working papers and schedules.
- Perform other duties as required.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
- 1–5 years of experience; may be pursuing a CPA designation or equivalent.
- Experience in construction or a related industry is preferred.
- Experience with SAP, BPC, and Business Objects is valued.
- Progressive experience indicating strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple priorities in a agile environment.
